What does everyone think of the commissioners' proposal to start county wide house-to-house garbage pickup at a monthly charge starting at $12.95? Apparently, this charge will be added to our property tax bill. What about the folks who already don't pay a dime in taxes? Are us few taxpayers in the county supposed to foot the bill for the folks who don't pay?
It seems to me that this is a bad idea and will fail from the start. Trash will be strewn all along the roadways, and will be dumped on private property. I plan to see my commissioner and tell him that I am opposed to this idea. I hope that everyone else will do the same, if you are opposed. If I am missing a point that this is a good idea, please post on this forum. Perhaps I have overlooked the merits of house to house pickup. I think the current dumpsters should be left as they are, hire a code enforcement person to patrol them and write citations, and enforce the laws. As a tired, beleaguered taxpayer who has paid about all I can stand to pay, this is just another tax added on to my yearly bill. There are only a few of us taxpayers in this county, and I think we need to stand up and say, "Enough, we have had all we can stand." Please talk to your county commissioner about this. |

I have spoken with my comm. and the way he explained it I already pay for all the people trash. A portion of the mileage rates goes for trash pick-up. Under the new way anybody that dumps trash will pay. If you rent or live in a house valued less than $50.000 you pay little to no taxes. This way everybody pays. If the landowner rents he would include the $12.95 in his or her rent bill. If he or she pays less taxes that most people this would be added to thier tax bill. If you pay a lot of taxes you are already paying for all the people plus the ones that are coming in form aout of county tha is dumping in our containers.

How in the world does anyone think this proposal will work and why would anyone even want it?
Why can't the county hire a retired law enforcement person or a retired military person to get in that white Ford truck that the county already has and do some code enforcing at the dumpsters? There are plenty of retirees who would like the chance to earn some extra money! Fines from people who dump illegally would probably pay this person's salary. And, what happened to the cardboard recycling bins at each dump site? That was a great way to keep boxes out of the landfill. All it takes is a little willingness to work out a plan, and someone to get the plan up and going. |
