You people that complain about the firemen, police officers etc.... should be ashamed of yourselves.... These firemen on the coast have been working non stop to try and save homes, and lives since sunday morning with no rest.... These same firemen, chiefs, workers, DOf are sleeping on the concrete at an area high school for 15-20 minutes at a time then get back out and fight for YOUR LIFE AND PROPERTY!!!!!! I for one, am very glad that they make what they make.... If you are complaining, please by all means go through fire standards, and put your family second after the service, to help IDIOTS like you all. These wonderful people are doing something that most other people don't want to or don't have the courage to, and I think we don't pay them enough!!!!! I am a firefighters wife, and he is now a battalion chief. He works his butt off for the public. He was not home during the hurricanes with his family, he was with the FD trying to save people, get them shelter, clean up their areas, give them food. I would gladly stay home with our three children during a hurricane again so that he could help IDIOTS like you all over again.

We brought in to town fathers Rural Metro who at that time promised 3 rigs and would only charge the town 10K for there service sounds great so far. They began to run calls and do there billing, are area of 38 sq. miles covers residental, bus.,low income projects with the normal problems there, senior housing and rest homes.Well the billing went out and some of these poor people could not paythe $500-600 for BLS let alone medics and drugs soRural Metro was not making the money they thought.THe year contract expired as this was a tes program and they went back to the town and tried to triple the charges to town, when town balked at that they pulled two rigs from coverage area with the results begin more mutual aid and back where we started from we now have local hospital providing 6-6,m-f coverage and it seems to working better, and they are able to get charity care money forthe poor that can not pay.The point Iam making is that while AMR may sound like a great idea and help the poor and give people more money in there pocket it may actually hurt those you are trying to help but if you do not use EMS of course it is a savings but we all needed it sooner or later.Stay Safe Don't bother. He doesn't get it and never will. Firefighters are heroes. Not athletes or movie stars. Please know that the majority of us admire and respect all of you.

I'll never forget driving north out of Florida with our daughter before the hurricanes, and leaving my husband behind to weather the storm and help people who needed it. It was the worst feeling in the world, but he insisted we leave so he could help others and not worry about us.

Firemen are very special people and I believe that they do not get enough credit for what they do. They train, they fight fires, they try to help people and what do they get? They get people who do not appreciate them and think that they are overpaid lazy -----.
People do not even realize the sacrifices that a firefighter makes for the public. Their home family comes in a distant second. It takes a very special spouse to understand that they will have to keep up all the chores, children fed, run the household all by themselves with little assistance from their firefighter spouse, because they are out protecting the public. I am very proud and honored that I am married to such a man.
When the fires really start going this summer and firefighters are laid off and peoples homes burn, and lives are lost. People will complain that there are not enough personnel.

Go Fire Fighter. You guys are real hero's. I pray for all your safety in protecting many of these same morons postings stupid comments just to get a rise out of people. Remember to thank one of these guys once they help to protect youir property from burning up. Must nbe nice to sit behind your computors running your mouths instead of getting out there to volunteer cold drinks and food to these guys who put their lives on the line so you can sit there and live your lives as douche bags that you are.

My daughter did her science fair project on smoke detectors, and three off-duty firefighters met with us on a Sunday for three hours to help her do the experiment. And you're right. They aren't home much because they are helping others, who then complain about them! My mother asked me once how it feels to be a single mother! Those that aren't married to them just don't understand! It's an honor!

Being self employeed like you are, see if you could provide EMS and VFD for 700,000 residents for a little less money. EMS tax per $1000 of property value is $2.87 . The average singel family home pays over $1,000 per year in EMS taxes. If you do need EMS service you will pay $500 to $700 for a ride to the hospital. Most of the $290 million goes to pay salaries, benefits, and pensions. During the last budget year, 464 people in the Palm Beach county's workforce made more than $100,000. About 68 percent of that group worked for fire-rescue. See if you can figure out how to lower the costs. Any savings will go to hard working taxpayers families to buy braces, shoes, food and fuel.

I don't believe that it would be the pension for the firefighters and pay. What you should look at is the cost of healthcare that we as floridians pay for "Special People". I'm talking about the extra perks that the Florida legislature as well as local government and city officials get for serving their terms. Well to start, they should cut their salaries to about $10,000.00 a year for a part time job, then they should not receive free healthcare for LIFE if they serve two terms. They should pay for it like every other retiree. They get stuff paid for all of the time. and they receive just as much in pensions as a person that is in the special risk class of the retirement program. If you cut all of that out, and make the officials pay for what every one else has to pay, I can guarantee you it will be more that 290 million dollars.

I believe it is extremely important to let my husband go to work without worrying about me or the children. I don't want his mind anywhere else but work, when he is at it. I think if he thought about all I do to keep the family together, he would probably worry and I don't want that; and that would leave his mind on our family instead of on the job as it should be. I know what he did when I decided to marry him and I would not have it any other way. Thank you firefighters for all you do. You guys and gals are in my hearts forever.
