With a Democratic President and Congress she at least now will have a fighting chance.
What a joke

WWW didn't buy Sperry. They bought Sebago.
While hiring family is sweet and nice, it isn't always a good business decision.
Remember, it was the tannery workers who went on strike a few years ago because a few were mad that their pensions were capped at 30 years. I would count my blessings that I had a pension and not cause a company to lose money by striking.
Be careful what you wish for because you could be to blame. If the government pulled their contracts, you could kiss another several hundred jobs goodbye.
Why would WWW want to keep open multiple facilities if it was more cost efficient to consolidate? Do you want them to waste money just to keep jobs? I know it sounds mean but they do have a business to run.
Sorry, About the Sperry reference... you sure sound like one of the fat cats that work on the hill.... you can talk all you want to clear your conscience... as you pull your import into your Reeds lake home, after having dinner at Egypt Valley, after surveying Lake Michigan from the bluffs of your cottage....and the last time you visited the Tannery was when...oh,I forgot the smell is too much for you...something smells fishy or should I say like pork.....

Everyone is saying "buy" american. Someone needs to start a topic that people can chime in on and let others know what is made in america. It would be interesting to see how many things are actually made here in the US.

good profit. not losing money,
cutting 450 jobs.....pathetic....probably in the US.
production is done in china.....also pathetic.
did they get our bailout money? like the 3.14 billion$ given to 5/3rd bank.
one can easily see why the economy, and much of michigan, is headed south big time.
hoekstra, ehlers, congress, etc of course needn't
worry, or stress, about their JOB, HEALTHCARE, and PAYCHRCK for their ineffective, miserable performances, right?
How is shipping production to China pathetic? We have only ourselves to blame for this... so many people are so happy shopping at WalMart saving that 3 cents per box of (insert product here), yet we are unwilling to spend a little more to buy at a local business or one that pays a decent wage.

Dose it make sence to buy say a roll of aluminum foil for $1.00 at a dollar store, or A roll of aluminum foil at a retail store $2.49. Most people would say buy the foil for $1.00. Ah but look a little closer the $1.00 roll is 25 feet, the $2.49 roll is 75 feet. What is the real bargain hear.
Most people will buy cheaper, but is it always the better bargain?

its not just the factory workers getting cut... one store has already closed in Missouri another is closing. i know of one in Tennessee that also closed right before the one in Missouri that closed at the end of June. i feel for you justme because i also lost my job to this mess there using to make more money. i only now just got a new job. i had just graduated from high school when i was informed that we were closing. i had one scholarship and was counting on the money i would have made over the summer to cover the rest but no it wasnt to be i lost my job and my chance at college. but there will be other times when i will make it. im not really mad at them im just disappointed in loosing my first semester of college. but im sure if you dont have a job now you will get one and i will pray it is better than the one you had because i know mine is.

A bunch of folks on here are a real hoot. They don't buy anything made in the USA because it is too expensive or union made or they can't find USA stuff,(shoes, clothing, electronics, cars, etc). Then, they conplain they lost their job, the economy sucks, they don't make enough money yada yada. Geez maybe if you bought US made stuff when it was available the manufacturers wouldn't have had to move production to China/Mexico/Viet Nam, to compete with the companies that were making stuff there and you were buying because it was cheaper.
We will see soon if the Dems with their big majorities are serious about bringing jobs back here or just instituting more social programs.
you tell'em thar feller

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Cancer

You've got high hopes about someone or something today, and you're confident that everything will turn out well. If a positive attitude is a guarantee of a positive outcome then you have nothing to worry about. But is it? There's a chance that you're being far too optimistic, and confusing fantasy with fact. If so, you'll be in for a big disappointment.
