"The company plans to save $17 million to $19 million annually on the restructuring, which will cost $31 million to $36 million before taxes to implement." "Separately, the company said it acquired Cushe , a U.K. footwear brand."

So - spend more money than they plan to save, buy another business in a different country, BUT CUT 450 JOBS in the US.... Nice.....

good profit. not losing money,
cutting 450 jobs.....pathetic....probably in the US.
production is done in china.....also pathetic.
did they get our bailout money? like the 3.14 billion$ given to 5/3rd bank.
one can easily see why the economy, and much of michigan, is headed south big time.
hoekstra, ehlers, congress, etc of course needn't
worry, or stress, about their JOB, HEALTHCARE, and PAYCHRCK for their ineffective, miserable performances, right?

When is the government going to stop the bleeding. We need boarder control and an end to so called "free trade". We cannot keep importing labor and products from third world nations and expect American corps to be able to compete with them. Wondering you are right buy American.

Yet another clueless post.
The American corps are the ones doing the work overseas and selling it here. These are not "foreign" companies just dumping their products in our markets. THEY ARE US COMPANIES!

ask yourself why leadership has been such a total failure in this country in this country from the top down, enabling us to descend to where we are today. this did not have to happen, and should have been put in check years ago with strong leadership and action, and not huge trade imbalance, greed, and a thousand other factors, and patched with some
850 billion$ in bailout band-aids going to God knows where, and used for God knows what.

Buy another company, layoff people? Sounds like X-Rite of Grandville. And if you want to see what that did to the company, check out their declining stock; from $14 a share to under $2 in just a year and a half. these MBAs are brilliant!

and lonewatchman is right. he forgot to add that we even give tax breaks to U.S. companies that operate oversees.

A bunch of folks on here are a real hoot. They don't buy anything made in the USA because it is too expensive or union made or they can't find USA stuff,(shoes, clothing, electronics, cars, etc). Then, they conplain they lost their job, the economy sucks, they don't make enough money yada yada. Geez maybe if you bought US made stuff when it was available the manufacturers wouldn't have had to move production to China/Mexico/Viet Nam, to compete with the companies that were making stuff there and you were buying because it was cheaper.
We will see soon if the Dems with their big majorities are serious about bringing jobs back here or just instituting more social programs.

Give Wolverine the boot! Until they move all operations to China or Mexico we should not buy their over priced, union made products. Buy only products made in other countries because the US is the cause of all the worlds problems. WallyMart is the only store that we should buy from as they sell only Asian made products and are non-union.

Wolverine in based in MI and their plant in MI was manufacturing. As for the person who asked when's the last time I purchased shoes made in america: don't remember the date, but they were actually Merrill's, made by Wolverine.

Someone mentioned X-Rite. Today they find out how many and who is being layed off. I know a couple that have kids that will be finding out today if either or both will be let go.

unfortunately, many of us have to buy from WallyMart because we don't make enough money because we're not paid enough enough because no one buys the things we make because they're too expensive because they're made and on and on. vicious circle and the only ones who profit are the fat cats.

Daily Horoscope for November 28

Sagittarius

You may want to do things on the spur of the moment, but pay attention to detail if you want to avoid unexpected expenses. Even a last-minute decision to go for a bike ride could end up with an injury or a flat tire, so try to think your actions out carefully. Once unpredictable Uranus settles down, you can enjoy a more relaxed attitude towards life. This evening you can let your hair down.
