Geesh, so many people and so much MIS-Information.

He did not receive 200 years for each count (child), he received 200 years....PERIOD.

In addition, he was caught in Milwaukee after catching up to his estranged wife and beating her...he told the Milwaukee police what he did and they notified the Rockford authorities who then found the bodies.

And stop with the "I wanna stop his next parole.. by writing a book..." Simon Peter Nelson will die an old man in prison....PERIOD. He will never get out and the only reason someone would want to write a book on the subject is simply an attempt to make money on the trajedy.....

I skated with Jennifer and also knew her mother who had been a coach at the rink. Only once do a remember meeting Simon Peter Nelson and on a few occassions a couple of the boys. The time I met SPN was just a few weeks before the murders. He had driven Ann and Jennifer to the rink (or was picking them up) because Ann had injured her leg and had a large brace on it. I believe she re-injured it when he shoved her into the tub at the hotel in Madison where she was staying with a student who was rumored to be a boyfriend. He was an adult who took ice dancing lessons from her.

Jennifer was fun to be around. I knew her for the last 2-3 years of her life. Since my brother played hockey I was a the rink a lot, often at 6:00 am for figures practice and again in the evenings when my brother skated with his team. Jennifer was there a lot too, hanging out waiting for her mom to finish working.

Although I'm 41 years old, I vividly remember hearing about the murders on the WROK news on the way to the rink that Saturday morning for a hockey game. We didn't know who it was until we walked in the door of the Ice House and saw everyone absolutely in shock. I had nightmares for months to come -- thinking SPN would come and get me for some strange reason (the mind of a traumatized 11 year old girl).

A side note. My mom is from Galesburg where SPN also grew up. She remembers his family home and that his father committed suicide by hanging himself in the home's foyer.

SPN should never, ever, be released. I don't care how sick he was. As a Christian I forgive him but society should never forget what he did.

I worked with a woman whose daughter was supposed to spend the night with the eldest daughter that night. They had gotten into a fight and it didn't happen.
I find it terribly eerie that there were three kids that were not supposed to be there that had opportunity to be there and for some reason were not there that night by a twist of fate or luck, apparently three children that were not in the family were saved from this man's rage.

The house sits empty right now. The couple that own and lived in the house are ministers. I talked to them often and the house is not haunted. I personal have been in the house at all times of the day and night and have never noticed anything unusual. The minister, wife and family lived there for 8 years. They have moved do to relocation because of church not because the house is haunted. This is not the houses fault it is the fault of a very sick selfish man.The story is about him not the house!!!

The house is 97yrs old and charming with all the beautiful woodwork, built in shelfs but in need of some repairs.

How strange to find this forum. I was in the third grade at P.R. Walker School at the time of the murders. I lived on Post Avenue directly across the street from Walker School and about one block from the Nelson's home on Camp Avenue. My younger brother and I were friends of two of the Nelson boys, Simon Jr. and Andy.

I distinctly remember meeting Simon Peter Nelson Sr. on just a few occasions and feeling a bit puzzled by him. I also remember that my father once contacted the Nelson's parents to secure their permission to take Andy or Simon to the Chicago zoo with us.

My family probably still has some pictures that young Andy drew while at my house ... he was quite an artist for his age.

In 1983 my family moved to Indianapolis. In 1986 I learned that a classmate of mine in Indianapolis knew of the murders through her skating lessons. This prompted me to write a detailed memoir of the whole experience and its effect on our family...

Would anyone who know the Nelson kids be willing to talk about them and how it changed you or people you may have known. I am shooting a documentary about the crime.

One of my best friends lived in Rockford and actually baby sat for the Simon Peter Nelson family. He used to drive her home. Talk about getting freaked after the fact he murdered the children and the family dog. She said she couldn't even think about it, it made her so upset. Horrific at the very least. She now lives in Houston, TX with her family.

Omg!! My name is j and I live right across the street from it. we call it it because of what happened with the six kids. It is really scary especially since we were friends with the people who lived there last. No more there. I am so freaked out and they should just TEAR IT DOWN in memorial of the children (and the dog)

Do you know the address on Camp that the murders took place? We just moved into the area, three houses from Camp and am interested in knowing.

To Anyone who lived in Rockford and had a connection with the Nelson family, I would be interested in hearing from you via email - I'm writing a book about this hoping to stir up enough interest in him to thwart his next parole hearing (in 2008),and any future parole hearing he may have. Please email me dalide_monica@yahoo.com. Thanks!

much like many of the others who have commented on this, this has stayed with me my entire life. I was 7 years old and a second grader at Walker School when this happened. Matthew was a classmate. He was a quiet but nice kid. I remember hearing about the murders that Saturday morning and still remeber what song was playing on the radio when my mom told me and my sister. We moved away from Rockford later that year due to my dad's job changing, but I will never forget that horrific event. I could not comprehend why someone would do that to their kids. I was just doing a google search on the murders, wondering if Simon Nelson got the death penalty.

Actually, no - my goal is not to make money on the tragedy - I've been writing as an avocation all my life - it's what I do in my spare time. And, I've made approximately $100 as a writer in the course of my hobby. Very few people become rich writing -

This story interested me - it obviously interests you and many others on the blog - and thus a few years ago it became my latest passion. Whether what I write about Simon Peter Nelson will ever see the light of day is not important.

I have lived in Rockford for 12 years and have met many, many people who were involved in the case and many, many people who remain deeply affected by it. The crimes were horrific, and Nelson was an unremorseful, vindictive, abusive controlling man - he deserves to stay where he is for the remainder of his natural life. Since I have the knowledge through my research to help keep him where he is, I am doing just that.

That simple -

I've begun an online petition for submission to the Illinois Prisoner Review Board requesting that his parole be denied.

Please visit my website and I urge everyone who is willing to sign the petition.

Ouch! the memories! I, too lived on Post Avenue and was walking home Saturday morning from a sleep over at a friends house. I was 15. I looked down the street and saw all the cop cars. We were friends with the Nelsons, Smardo's and Stanicks - all on the same street, right by each other. I saw the crowd and asked an older lady there, What's going on?? I thought my brother or one of the boys got in trouble----SHOCK! I felt like I was hit by a ton of bricks - I can still feel the terror! I ran to my house, no one was home -called the neighbors, found my mom and family friends and screamed and cried - the pain of what happened and the relief, it wasn't my brother too. I still have the original newpaper articles with me 2000 miles away and 33 years later. Those kids were never looked after properly , the baby climbed out of the 2nd story window and almost fell off - SPN would always look for them out late at night (playing with my brother and friends)- he would beat them, we knew. These are horrible memeories- he is evil and needed to be sentenced to death.

I remember the Smardos too The boys names all rhymed. Chad, Brad and Tad, I think. I did not realize they lived all right there on the same street. I am reliving these memories currently and I know how painful it is. I don't think any of us particulary those of us who were kids and knew them can ever forget or erase the memories.

I was 14 when those murders happened. Simon Peter Nelson's wife was my skating coach. He killed their six children, ages 3-13, in such a manner that footprints were used to confirm identification. He also killed the dog, and went to the hotel in Milwaukee to kill Mrs. Nelson, who has since changed her name. He told her about the kids, and she was able to escape his attempts to hurt her, and alert police, who went to the house and confirmed what she had been told. Every time he comes up for parole, there are groups of people who sign petitions to keep him in prison. He got 200 years for each child, and not the death penalty. I'm not sure how the whole parole thing works with that, if they're consecutive or concurrent terms. I was deeply effected, and still think about his wife and how she's done over the years. I knew the oldest girl, just from being at the rink at the same time sometimes. It was all more than my 14 year old mind could deal with, and effected countless others.
Their house was just west of the Rock River....I have never heard of any Tibble or Tipple house. It's not the same as the Nelson home.
yea i actually know exactly where this house is located its for sale and has been for sale for a pretty long time and one of my best friends mom was actually was good friends with the oldest girl and the reason why the guy went crazy was cause his wife was cheating on him but thats just some stuff i know o yea the house is located on camp ave. in rockford il. 61103

From what I am told, the house has been torn down recently. It used to be located out towards UPS. I can't remember the exact road it was on, but you went down Harrison and turned left on a road just past Main (there is a gas station not to far before you turn). You went down that road a few blocks and the house was off a small side road on the right.
Its my house and its not torn down. its for sale matter of fact.

Linda,
Miranda is speaking about the house of topic, not the off-topic house on Camp Ave. Is the house listed with a Real Esttate company or for sale by owner?
