I know a family in town that works hard, children are very active, intelligent, and have the greatest social skills I have ever seen in children, yet there hearts are broken, because Rock Port School district will not go to bat for them to compete for our school. Why? Is there something wrong here? They are Tax payers and pay a hefty tax at that, because they are a cafe owner, and commercial property owner. Shame on us for not backing these people. Why doesn't Missouri High School Athletic Association, allow them? they say the kids have to participate for at least 80% of there day in a public building of education, hey I always see them running a business, what kid in town can do that; they are always in the books when I see them; they are a church going family; always trying to get close to our kids at the field; I even spoke to this family the superintendent of our Rock Port School told the clodfelter coach to tell the gonzalez girl she could be of assistance or encouragement to the jr high kids at the track field and made her leave. This sad!!

Your narrow mindedness is why Missouri is in the condition it is in. The rest of the states have begun to realize that home schoolers have more self discipline and respect for authority, that our everyday attending students. They like to be involved and include their ethics in there everyday socialization. Sure some people abuse home schooling, but the majority have great kids, good work ethics, and very respectful. One must think about the politics why they are excluded. They too are public school tax payers. I think they should be able to play if they want to. They pay taxes just like everyone else. Give these kids a break and let them play. It's like they are being punished for getting home schooled, which is completely wrong. They are obviously very intelligent kids and they deserve the right to play sports a long with the other kids.

My son is homeschooled and he can participate in sports if he wants to. I don't understand why someone else's couldn't. He also has the option to graduate with his class and all his grades are reported to Tarkio High. Once he completes the classes he will get a diploma from Tarkio R-1. The school is MOVIP through the University of Missouri. http://movip.org

I want my children to be able to coherently articulate a sentence. Read what you wrote dude, it makes little sense without a stretch of the imagination!

The law reads, your child must participate in 80% of the classes that the local school requires, it does not say he or she must take them in a public school. I was told by the state that it is up to the school if a child must attend any classes in public schools to participate. I know a student who attends 2 classes in public school and is homeschooled thereafter and plays sports in school.

Why should they represent the school if they don't attend class there? A sports team is a representation of your school. If you don't go to school there, you have no business playing. It's not fair to the students that do attend the public school.

I disagree 100%... I PAY SCHOOL TAXES in this district, if my kid wants to participate in sports it's his right to do so! He can play as long as he takes 2 classes in public school and home schooled. He must take a combined 80% of what the school district requires for his class. I'm just glad he chose to not play football or enroll in THS, homeschooling is better, he learns more and no BS from THS staff. his younger sister will be homeschooled as well.

I do but they want to participate in sports so they have to take 2 classes at Tarkio.... The school gets federal money if he chooses to go there so it's a win/win situation!

That is about as dumb as saying if you're not born and raised in the town where you live, you do not have a representative say or role in that community. Yeah, let's continue being small minded...it's so healthy.

Yeah, let's continue being small minded...it's so healthy. And yeah, I love it when people move in, you give them an inch, they take a mile. The kids are expected to receive them with open arms(and they do), then bam, the new people take over and the students/athletes that have been here since kindergarten putting in their time, paying their dues, get pushed aside and crapped on like they don't even exist any more! Oh and then after causing a bunch of trouble they move!

So, is it fair to say that if you don't have kids that attend a public school, then you shouldn't have to pay taxes for that school? People shouldn't have to "support" a school if they dont have kids that go there.???
