Commissioner Keane is running for reelection as Douglas County Commissioner District #2 on the pretense of making decisions according to the law not personal feelings or political favors, good working relationships with East Wenatchee and other cities and counties, and a balanced budget BUT.....
Three quarters of Keane’s contributions come from people connected to the building industry. In addition, decisions and statements he has made while county commissioner bring his ethics and honesty into question. 2008 Witte’s applied for a rezone on some of their orchards to allow denser development in an agricultural area. Even after neighbors hired attorneys and proved the illegality of this rezone Keane was the only commissioner who voted to approve it. 2007 Calvin White a local developer exceeded the allowed amount of 20-acre exempt lots in his development at McNeil Canyon. Buyers and surrounding property owners complained to the county about the illegal lots and the lack of roads. Keane and the other commissioners had the road and twenty-acre exempt requirements revised to accommodate White after he violated them. 2004 Keane gave Dave Bremmer another developer, permission to burn even though it violated DOE clean air laws. "Dave and I get along real well. We've worked on a couple of deals together," "This ain't the good old boys." Keane was quoted as saying. 2003 Keane along with the other two commissioners held an illegal closed-door meeting to change wetland laws to accommodate developer Jack Corning after he had violated the existing laws. Contrary to Keane's assertions, only one year out of 12 has the county budget been balanced. The other 11 years have been shortfalls and deficits. Keane has cut the Chelan Douglas Health District funding on a regular basis. East Wenatchee is now suing Douglas County for problems with Martin Hall (another “plus” Keane has taken credit for.) Keane has used names in his ads without permission. It is clear that Keane has not being truthful with voters on his record of “accomplishments.” It will be up to the voters to decide after reading this if he has earned the full retirement and health benefits from the county that he will be eligible for if elected to his fourth term as Commissioner. |
