Who are you and what have you done to Higgans???
There should be NO taxes on our labor!
There should be NO social security program!
There should be NO medicare!
http://www.youtube.com/watch...
This is all unconstitutional and didn't start until the early-mid 1900's. It's nothing but theft, waste, fraud and abuse.
I'll save my own damn money and make my own determination on the age I will retire!
Raptor, EVEN RP acknowledges that since so many people ARE dependent on SS (and Medicare), he would not just up and stop the program. at least they are 98% self-funded without counting the $2T in IOUs.
I believe he even said the same about other true welfare programs... that he was in favor of some kind of an adjustment period.
jeeze! the man is only talking common sense and a sane approach for those Americans trapped by these Prog entitlement programs. what if, IF there were to be a RP Presidency and a return to actually amending the Const, a SS/Medicare Amend were passed and adopted within the first two years? we would have to RE-start it all over again.
I say freeze it, get Congress to put forth an amend, written to completely define the program based on the best possible data and other such programs from around the world (if any), make it VOLUNTARY, make it FULLY self-funded, include ALL Americans (even the Feds!) AND then let the States an the People either adopt or reject it, period. either way, we have, what, 25-30M souls either now or soon to be 90% dependent on SS?
my sole argument has been what IS Constitutionally permitted, not whether any such UN-Const'l programs are right ot not. I don'tbelieve RP would argue with that POV, do u?

$11.81 p/hr is NOT enough to 'live' on either. maybe that's why I have a part-time job, a WIFE that works f/t and collects a small (early) pension.

**If you paid $5K on your income then you are an idiot who should hire an accountant or go to H&R Block.
Moreover, who wants to listen to the BS of some 5 figure failure? Are you still waiting for that call from Ron Paul?
I like Ron Paul and agree with many of his ideas too but he would be 77 years old the day he entered office and would be the oldest person in America's history to become president.
The REALITY is that America is FISCALLY and ECONOMICALLY finished. Even if the economy magically rejuvenates itself, it will never keep up with the inflation. The WEALTHY don't want their taxes raised because they don't want to see their money going into that sinking hole known as the USA when they could hold on to it themselves and use it to hopefully outlast the collapse. Surely you never believed that there was a way out of this, did you?

Just curious, what is "5 figure failure?"

"I like Ron Paul and agree with many of his ideas too but he would be 77 years old the day he entered office and would be the oldest person in America's history to become president."
COOL! An elder statesman 12 times elected to Congress with a consistent record of honoring his oath to defend and uphold the Constitution.

Ron Paul will cut $1 trillion the first year! He is the only one that can save this country.

I know the programs can't just be stopped abruptly. I don't advocate that, except for the younger workers. I agree with Paul to transition out of it, while not leaving older people to die on the streets using money saved by ending the wars and foreign aid.

Personally, I would like every dime back that they ever took from me for SS- along with the interest it's earned. I would have made a better interest rate had I invested that in my own account.

Luckily, I do have my own retirement accounts as well an early pension starting in a few years. I'll be able to retire while still in my forties. Other people could to, IF they had control of their money and didn't have to rely on the government to start sending them SS checks when they reach 62, 67, or 70.(or whatever age they decide to distribute the funds back to the people.) Of course, there's always the chance that they'll spend it and people won't get it back.

I can't tell you how dead-set against SS I am. The thought that they can STEAL my money, then tell me I can have it back when and IF they say I can really pisses me off.

I liked Bush's plan to give us the option to put a portion of our SS money into our own private account. I'd rather put ALL of it in my own account.

Then provide us all a list of cities and towns in America AFTER the implementation of the provressive income tax that embarked on a system of infrastructure and where they are today.
General taxation was a smart decision to get technology of the day, and infrastructure built and running.
Only the wealthy in major cities had indoor plumbing, electricity, and paved roads.
Sorry, but you fail yet again.
History is not apparently your strong suit.
Sorry, class warfare is the perview of the wealthy, largely Republican elitist class, and has been put on steroids in the thirty years of failed Reagan/Tush "trickle down" economics.
The breakdown of the middle class built by unions and liberals since FDR, has been the entire purpose of the Republican Fascist Reich.
Nothing else matters but wealth redistribution from the bottom, up.
Those making more than 250,000 a year have seen their incomes- their share of the nation's wealth increase over 300 fold since Reagan, the rest of America, the "99%" have seen their wages and benefits flat line since 1980- those are the facts, and there's no debating it.
rather than argue with Boo-boo, the self-avowed ant--Cont/pro-communist, let me ask those seeking knowledge about pre-1913 (pre-Progressive dominance) America, in general, and about taxes and infrastructure in particular, check out these two utems. for starters:
1) "A History of Roads in the US With Athens (Ga.) as a Case Study"
this shud serve as a snapshot of America and American thinking in the years leading up to 1913
2) www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/revenue_history
pay particular attention to the chart that shows types of rev from 1915 to present and note the birth and rise of 'Bus taxes' and compare same with the decline in our economy. take a look at the increase, too, in govt fees.
some interesting tidbits: the first paved road in America was in Maine in 1625! in the 1850's there were 8,500 mi of RR tracks and 71,000 mi of paved roads. today there are 4M mis of paved rds and sts! get this, WEALTHY bicyclists were the most motivators behind the earliest paved road push! in the late 1800's, most States were loathe to accept Fed monies for ANYTHING, even roads, for fear of the 'strings' that would be attached. look at how right that 'outmoded' thinking was!
those of u with an open mind, do this little bit of research and I think u will see who's 'story' is closest to the American truth...

u have to understand, R, that 'cile and I have some history from other threads. without going in to details too much, he and I are both Vets. me in the'73-'78 Army, him later in the Air Force.
me and my family sere stationed overseas for 3 1/2 yrs in the Middle East in a location he knows absolutely nothing about. yet, thru his vast (sarcasm intended) knowledge of ALL US military postings, every where and for all times; he who never served a day with me, let alone in the same Branch of Service, calls my claim a lie.
needless to say, I refuse to give the arrogant SOB even the sniff of a hint... he doesn't need it, right?

Absolutely. I felt the same way when I gave Barefoot a hint on how to save and he twists it into a "M'effin' lie" because he wasn't the one to come up with the idea. Apparently we must all be indoctrinated to do what you're told and think the same.

Maybe I'm a little older than you think. <wink> The hint is ^^ up there^^.

Discussions here on Topix helps. You've taught me some things. I have other friends, one in particular, that has helped educate me as to what's going on in our country, compared to the vision of our founders and what they spelled out in the founding documents. He introduced me to Ron Paul as well, since the MSM wouldn't.

I have no "personal" knowledge of what WAS in their day, compared to what IS now. I still have a lot of learning to do regarding our history. But the changes I've seen with my own eyes haven't been good.

I do remember a time when seatbelts and airbags weren't stuffed down our throats. When school kids played cops and robbers using their fingers as guns, and they weren't expelled from school, or even scolded, for doing it. When I could buy cough syrup without having to show ID. When I wasn't sexually violated in order to get on an airplane. Etc, etc, etc....

thanks for responding to my query, R...
u abviously have experienced enough changes to see where our Nation is headed. safety doesn't explain it, at least to me.
I never felt overly threatened on 9/12 and I don't particularly feel any safer now, either. I attribute those feelings to at least three things:
1) an old Msgt told me at Ft. Campbell not to worry about the 'bullet with your name on it', if there is one, it WILL find u, period. instead, worry (and dodge!) the one addressed 'To Whom It May Concern'. makes perfect sense any where, any circumstance.
2) while overseas, there were Moslem extremists targeting foreigners, HIGH profile-types. military-wise, Maj's and above. I was an E4 & E5. we were picked up in 9-pass vans, 2-9 EMs at a time. and, NEVER targeted. sometimes I would walk to work, in my fatigues with only a civilian jacket/coat as 'cover'. NEVER bothered. conclusion: I wasn't THE target. pretty soon, one quits even worrying, let alone thinking about such matters.
3) 9/11 and the aftermath proved that the 'enemy', like 99% of all terrorists, only thought BIG: big targets, big people. that and the fact that they obviously had very limited resources and the US is sooo HUGE. living in 'fly over' country, we did not even appear on their 'target' radar. and, if I/we did, see point No. 1, above.
my point? neither Homeland Scty or the Pat Act are needed, that is to 'protect' us. ANY erosion of our every day liberties and freedoms is a LOSS, ones that we will probably NEVER get back (like the freedom of chosing whether to buckle-up or not!).
well, YOU know the rest...

You sure he didn't say REPEAT 1913?
Ron Paul is a joke.
it does not get about 1913 year, it gets about an act NDAA or something alike and a part of it, what has number 1913 and he would like to repeaL it it means reject it and not repeaT. You can all find it in internet, what says Ron Paul and what is going about - it is an internet place: www.ronpaul2012.com , there are vides, you can look at all these videos and find, what is going about.
I can only explain, that it gets not about year 1913, but it gets about a law, which says that US citizens can be detained indifinitely and imprisoned without trials, rights to lawyers just like all these poor, innocent people in many US detention camps ( Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Guantanamo ).
I think that maybe you are right, because if your beloved politicians ( Obama, Clintons, Romney, Santorum, Gingrich- all children of Bush ) torment people globally, they can make the same thing with you in USA. It is no problem for me at least. But this would be not in your interest, believe me.This Ron Paul is really the only hope for your country and hopefully for the rest of the world too.

Doonesbury best summed up Ron Paul.

“Dr. Paul, your candidacy defies understanding... While everyone shares some of your views very few people share them all. The fact is, your philosophy is pure utopianism. No modern society could function under a libertarian government. Which is why none exists.”

Totally True, but if you perpetuate the fantasy many tend to think it's reality, per the Ron Paul Supporters.

Got to big up Dr. Paul though when he handed newte gingrich his head on a platter.
.
the question was about the "Draft", Newte Gingrich was whining about how far it was to the recruiting station and he thought he would score points by saying, "he was married with a child"
.
Dr. Paul interjected, "I was married and had 2 kids" and I served.
.
best darn can of whopp ass Ron Paul put on the Newte gingrich.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Capricorn

There's a definite chance you could get carried away and tell a whopper of a story that has little resemblance to what really happened. What on earth has got into you?
