Financial State of Wilcox county

I would like to start a discussion on the financial state of the county. I understand that the county is in substantial debit. I do not know all of the details, but I have heard some things that I belive should be addressed in this argument.
First, I understand that the Sheriff Department submits its anual budget to the county every year and that no one has a say in this amount, other than the Sheriff, and that this is a huge amount. Whatever he says he needs to run the department for the year, the tax payers have to give the department. This is for the employees,(with the exception of the Sheriff), and the jail opperation. I do not have a problem with that, with the exception of the fact that the department does not generate any revenue for the county.
The only way that the dept could generate revenue would be to write traffic tickets, at the present time they do not. There are radars installed in some of the cars(paid for by the taxpayers) However they do not have a traffic unit.
They pay Dodge County to handle the 911 calls, and have a dispatcher at the dept also.( I am not sure if this is in the Sheriff Dept budget or if it is paid by the county) This was done becouse the county could not afford a 911 system. I wonder what we pay yearly to Dodge County.
I am not sure what the present employee count is at the dept. However there is no one on duty at night. They all work the day/evening shift! If you need someone at night, it will be one of the city Police Depts responding. Abbeville and Rochelle have someone on duty 24 hrs.
Second, our EMS, I have been told that the Paramedics in this county make more than any of the surrounding counties. I do not understand this one. I know what they do is exteamly inportant, but how do they make more than those in Crisp County, who handle many, many more calls than Wilcox?
I do not have exact numbers on any of this and alot of it is hearsay. If anyone can, help out with some of the facts????

We should all pull together, find out the facts and start asking some of our elected officials to answer some questions. They do, after all, work for us, the taxpayers of this county. And we do have the power to fire or rehire them, based on the job that they do for us, and our county.

sounds like a bunch of bullsh!t to me. I agree 100%! Everyone in the county needs to have a meeting and ask to see a list of the county employees salaries since we pay them. There are alot more employees in the county now at the courthouse and jail than every before, and taxes have gone up to help pay for all those salaries. Every other company in America is cutting back, cutting hours, I think they need to be included also. We get cutbacks at our jobs but are still expected to pay for all the county workers expensive gadgets, cell phones, blackberries, gas for their patrol vehicles (that they drive everywhere 24/7), and for expensive secretarial workers. County commissioners need their but kicked for allowing it to go on for so long.

Has anyone heard about the whopping amount the jail spends on food alone? Supposedly its in the six figures. Since the inmates themselves are cooking the food and they only get two meals/day-- HOW IN THE WORLD IS IT THIS HIGH? I think I smell something fishy and I ain't talkin bout fish sticks.....

In the six figures holy sh!t batman! Do you know how many rendevous hotel rooms you can stay in for that amount of moeny? wow! Sounds to me like PeeWee needs to start rationing them boys some corn meal or porridge for those 2 meals a day. Hey, Why dont the county sign a contract with Bob Addison and let him barbecue some wild hogs for their meals...farmers would supply those hogs, and then prisoners could have bacon and sausage for breakfast and pork chops and ribs for dinner, would have to save us taxpayers a bundle! Just a thought.

Sounds to me like some people have deep rooted personal issues. Like maybe not being loved as a child, or your teeth rottening out from smoking meth or sibling rivalry. The sherriff department does write tickets they usually try to give our citizens a break but not anymore. we are in a sad condition. i wood love for the deputess to write all the tickets they can. i know after the cook outs on tuesday and thursday nights they can get some dui watch owensburg road. them poor deputees ride around in old cars cause i rode to a game wiht them. I am one reason why taxees went up at school. i did som work and got paid cash cause i am disabled. i am sorry but i have given back cause i am a comissioneer and got cussed out by chuck, lanier, lambchops, adam, lonny, stacey,and lee. I nweed your vote next year so we can get taxes lowered, get a ambulance sold and feed the inmates 3 times a day. i can do all the labor for the school, jail, and courthouse, and jerold jones house. i check up on all county workers. i ask every tax payer to forgive me for getting disability all these years. i wiil return it with free labor. i can even change the ambulaces oil and the patrol cars oil. but i cant pick up heavy stuff. please castyour vote vote brown in again.

the monie they make can be gotten at the courthouse cause i got copies and had showed a bunch of people, we can cut at the sherrif deprt and ambulance but that would be serious. both them depart work for us 24 hours 7 days a week.what if your daddy had a heartattach or your mama got rapped? we cant fire elected people like bobby .patsy no i mean wanda and stacey. we cant fire no body. we got our hands cuffed tite. them poor sereteries make below wages.its hard for them poor county workers who dont have an education they have kids to feed and dress. ms hazel has worked for years for nothing. alex is a secretery and he dont get paid much at all. come to our meetings we will rise above all this angry citizens.

I wouldn't be so sure of that! Apparently being terminated for inappropriate conduct doesn't hinder from furthering one's ambitions in a neighboring county!
