Dr. Corey utilizes only his power in seeing contracted patients through hiring process for sorted law enforcement agencies. He uses a 1000 question test and see's an applicant for 10 mins or more but not more than a half an hour. With no facts he justifies halting the applicant from being hired based on a 10 min contact. The 1000 question test should be last and he should spend an hour or more with the applicant with a complete investigation sitting in front of him. I personally know of two applicants of have history of violence and or mental unsuitability and Dr. Corey passed them. So, lets think, did the Chief of Tacoma go see Dr. Corey? He is flawed and should and will be investigated.

I myself have had a vey negative experience with David Corey.
In fact he is nothing but a fradulent Psychologist.
He doe not even own a qualifying Doctorate degree but rather a "mail-to-order" degree from a low-grade on-line school.
Also and based on what little experience experiemce I shared with him, David Corey is a professional liar and a cover up artist.
Characters like his are a disgrace to the essence of human dissency.

I also had a horrible experience with the doc. Rather than provide a psych analysis he acts as if he is the one doing the hiring. He forms opinions on a 10 min interaction. Its bogus and a faulty system.

If David Corey fails you, then you are screwed for any law enforcement agency that uses him. I have spoken with officers from many agencies who know how this works. Some of the agencies that use him exclusively are City of Portland Police,City of Gresham Police, City of Gladstone Police, Coos County Sheriff and many more within the State of Oregon. He will get in your face and tell you that you are a liar. One way to conquer this is to make sure that you do not look to the right or left. To be able to pass his test, you have to be able to look Dr. Corey strait in the eye and lie without flinching. Around 10 years ago, before psych tests were given, you had a greater chance of being hired by an agency. Honesty and candidness ment something then. Now, with Dr. Corey's and others questionaires and interviews, I hate to say it, the best liars pass the psych portions of the background check and then get hired. The pre-psych test or Personal Inventory Questionaire (PIQ) are also reviewed by him or his computer. Washington County Sheriff will eliminate you from their hiring process right from the beginning if you mark yes on too many questions. The best way to avoid proplems with him and the PIQ are to appear honest. Never answer yes any question on the PIQ unless there is some sort of paper trail or personal reference that knows of your mistake. Here are some examples: if you hit your spouse only one time and the incident was 10 years ago, and your wife is past it, do not say that you have hit your domestic partner. If you have been sent to collections, never divulge any collection item unless it is something that shows up on your credit report or court records. Collection companys are generally prevented by law from giving any collection information out. If you smoked a funny substance and no one ever witnessed you smoking it, always answer no to trying something. The more yes' you mark, the greater the chances are that you will fail your background check. If you carried a concealed weapon with or without a permit but no one was privy to you carrying it, say that you never carried a weapon. If you are given a phone interview and for the PIQ questions, they will often say that you marked yes on a question that you actually marked no on. Say that you are sure that you marked no and if the report states that you said yes, tell the interviewer that you simply marked the wrong bubble. I hope this helps a deserving recruit pass Dr. Corey and to beat their chosen law enforcement agency at their own game.

You mention people that have mental problems. I know of several people who are in law enforcement and/or new recruits who have no apparent mental issues yet Dr. Corey will fail them. It is certainly unethical for so many agencies to use Dr. Corey exclusively. Basicly, the majority of Oregon's new law enforcement recruits are controlled by Dr. Corey. You can pass your entire background check, and then Dr. Corey states tha you are unfit for the job. Once he does this, his findings will almost always be forwarded to any agency to which you apply in the future. You've usually will have one more chance to pass Dr. Corey's evaluation with the smae or another agency. If he fails you a second time, my advice is go to another state and apply for a law enforcement position.

Multnomah County Health Department sent me to a "fitness for duty" evaluation by Dr. Corey. They also sent the manager's private working file with my completely benign personnel file from Human Resources. During the Interview, Dr. Corey brought up four events, one after another, that never happened. After the fourth event, he firmly closed the file and said, "Ok, Ms. Crazyladi, why dont you tell me why you think you are here." I said "I think Im here because Debra Cockrell, the new Program Manager at Mid-County Health Clinic, wants to vacate my position so she can bring her previous OA over to Mid-County." Dr. Corey facetiously asked if I really thought they would go to that much trouble just for that purpose and I told him they would. His report was so demeaning to my person. It was packed full of quotes from a letter written by a dischsrged HR Rep that I had never met that were bogus. He believed every one of her claims with no proof. He based his entire report on the managers file. My Union Rep did nothing about the use of that file which wss the first time anything like that had happened. I lost my job in April 2007 and my life was devastated. I sincerely hope Dr. Corey and Debra Cockrell reap what they sow. I had to move on after realizing I didnt have the financial ability to fight them in court. My life changed forever. I do know that I would never have had the ability to become part of management in Multnomah County Health Department because I could never exercise the kind of hypocrisy they celebrate in their lesdership. It is the unhealthiest place in Multnomah County to be employed.

Dr. Corey and Dr. Stewart worked me over in 2011 at the request of the City of Camas. They interviewed me for ten minutes or so then terminated the interview. They asked me to tell them my medical history and prescriptions. I declined and was fired for insubordination. I believe that they are very corrupt and are hired to achieve a particular goal and n my case it was to find a reason to terminate me. I was terrified at the thought of being judged by a forensic psychologist. These two psychologists are in my opinion very corrupt.

I made the mistake of reading all these negative things before I met with Dr. Corey for my physc-eval for PPB. So I was expecting a monster and went in there with my guard up...Ya, he saw right thru that and in about 2 mins told me how to answer the questions the way I needed to in order to be successful at the interview....Does that sound like a man on a power trip?? Yes, he does use a large scan- tron type personality test and yes we did only do a face to face for about 20-25mins. But, He has been doing this a long time and for many agencies. Not everyone can pass the eval and I think its only the ones who haven't who wrote something bad about him. I thought he was very nice, professional and helpful with my physc. I was extremely nervous and he could tell and he tried to calm me down. I have never seen a physc. Before so I don’t have much to compare him too, but he isn't a monster or mean like everyone else makes him out to be. BTW, I just got back from my interview with him and I don’t even know if I passed, but I was up all night worrying about what people wrote on here so I thought I would add my two cents.....

I, too, was failed by Dr. Corey for a law enforcement job. He barely looked at me during our 15 minute interview. I was--am--highly qualified for the position, but am now out of the application process. The frustration I feel is overwhelming, and as far as I can tell, there is no recourse whatsoever. If you have the misfortune to be evaluated by Corey, I wish you luck. I hope the agencies that use him eventually clue in to the fact that he's turning down qualified applicants based on some criteria that only he knows.

I went to corey(left out Dr. and capital on purpose)and he failed me for my background. I was changing agencies and had twelve years on the job. My face to face was around ten minutes which I thought was a joke when deciding someones future.
My Chief said don't worry corey has a bad reputation but the city uses him. I was allowed at my own expense to see another Doctor which I did and passed. My sit down time was over an hour long. corey is as crooked as the day is long. It's a shame that so many good people have been turned down because of this incompetent so called doctor.

I am so very relieved (regrettably) to have found this forum and topic of Dr. Corey. I have been labeled as high risk 7 seperate times and subsequently removed from hiring lists based off Coreys single assessment. I feel it ludacrist to have one man, with one opinion responsible for so very many applicants.

I would like to start a group involving all you above or any others out there who share in this same feeling of bias treatment. I feel as a whole we may have avenues which could force change.

Thank you.

I met with the second psychologist in Dr Coreys office. He has a very weird speech pattern, so much so that it causes you to unnaturally focus on understanding what words are coming out of his mouth rather than what he is actually asking you. He spent about twenty minutes, asked the same questions I had already answered 3 times in the process thus far, and then I was on my way with a label of high risk. I have nothing in my background whatsoever, had breezed through the whole process up until this part...Its unfortunate that an individual such as this can play such a key role in peoples lives. Bring your A Game with these clowns.

I recently had the unfortunate chance to been evaluated by Dr. Corey for the second time in 10 years. The first time I saw Dr. Corey he failed my psych after a 15 minute interview. Within two weeks I saw a different psych and passed with flying colors. I worked my way into a full time law enforcement position and did so well in that position that I was eventually awarded officer of the year. I decided it was time to change agencies and was bummed to hear Dr. Corey would be doing my evaluation for the agency I was trying to get on. I was evaluated by Dr. Corey for the second time and once again he failed me after a 32 minute face to face in which all he wanted to talk about was the first time he failed me. Dr. Corey has now cost me two great jobs all because he has the power. I have still to this day not heard anything good about this person. I have been in law enforcement for a decade now and have never had my integrity or any other aspect of my life questioned by anyone but Dr. Corey. This man is on a power trip and it needs to be stopped. From now on when I apply for a new agency, one of my first questions will be, what psych do you use. If it is Dr. Corey, I will not apply. Good luck to those who have the displeasure of having to be evaluated by this person.

I just went through the same process with the second psychologist in Dr. Corey's office. I applied for a call taking position and passed everything. I met with Dr. Stewart (I believe was his name). I was called by H/R and told that I did not receive a passing score from the psychologist.
I can't understand how I can go through a background check of the level that I did (in person interviews with family, roommates, neighbors, previous supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, etc.), criminal history checks, credit checks, and a couple of interviews, and then meet with this guy for an hour and he deems me unfit to take calls. Something is wrong here...

Personally, I don’t think Dr. Corey is either your sworn enemy OR good friend, just a guy working to uncover your deepest traits and use them to determine your fate as he sees fit. Clearly, you can see the potential for this to piss people off, as demonstrated by this forum.

Getting to the point, I myself was recently able to receive a passing recommendation from Dr. Corey, despite having an admittedly blemished record. I however, spent many hours/days preparing for this exam, and believe I’ve learned a couple things along the way I’d like to share here.

First, along the same lines of that dull advice about psych tests that’s mentioned ad nauseum - i.e.“Just be honest”– Dr. Corey will provide you numerous opportunities to lie or omit facts about yourself. Just keep in mind that he has access to your background investigation and can easily check facts. As many articles written by other psych doctors will attest to, more people fail their psych test by lying/omitting than any other reason...!

Given this, it’s better to err on the side of being too honest, especially about little, trivial things than it is to minimize, deny, or get defensive. Keep in mind that while the psych test is generally a “screen out” process, that is, it looks for reasons to reject you rather than reasons to retain you, you’ve almost always passed a full background investigation by the time you get to the psych test. This means that whatever you’re being asked about is either something the background investigation failed to uncover (in which case you could safely deny it) OR your department already knows about it and considers it not disqualifying. In this case it’s highly likely that Dr. Corey will consider it not disqualifying either. Don’t get greedy in trying to look good! Dr. Corey wants to see you as the flawed mortal you are.

The second point, one particularly particular to Dr. Corey (but also presumably many other psych docs as well), is that Corey relies VERY heavily on psychometric test results. He literally travels across the country teaching people about some of these tests, as any quick internet search will reveal of him.

As such, you need to have a sufficient grasp on the MMPI (specifically the MMPI-2-RF), the MPQ, and the CPI. Even if you aren’t going to go to the trouble of hunting down each item which raises your K and L factors or the like, you need to at least functionally understand what questions look for “defensiveness” in the applicant and “uncommon virtues”. You need to learn to own up to common flaws (e.g.“I always tell the truth”– FALSE) while not flagging questions searching for pathology (e.g.“I sometimes hear strange voices”– TRUE).

Remember these two points and remember them well: own up to anything that is already known of you (i.e. don’t lie/omit that which can and will be discovered) and understand at least the basic mechanics behind the common psych tests listed above. I did this and it worked for me, even with an uncomfortably checkered past.

I hope this works for you too.
