Caused his wife, not himself. You are the one reading things into it by looking at what is not written. I'll give you this. Matthew is inconsistent with the big picture of what Jesus was teaching. Let me spell it out simply for you.

1. Justice: Both partners committed adultery. Freed the adulterous woman because the man was not there.(John 8)

2. Hypocrisy: Jesus was speaking about how the scribes and Pharisees practiced man made laws and failed to observe the ten commandments properly.

3. Mercy & Compassion: Let the adulterous woman go and forgave her sin.(John 8)

4. John 8 came from Luke 21 because 3rd century church fathers did not want to teach the Jesus forgave adultery. This passage was almost lost except for the fact that the scribe buried it inside the Gospel of John.

Those same words can be connected to the verses where Jesus showed a definite difference between him and God the Father.
Like when he spoke of he and the Father being one, he was speaking of a spiritual connection. They were one in thought and purpose. The verses where Jesus prays to the Father and states that the Father was greater then himself give evidence for that thinking.
When you believe that Jesus is God the Father and God the Father is Jesus, literally, you have to dismiss ALL verses that contradict that thinking.
