That is a terrible, cynical thing to say. They are suing to have the same type of access we all enjoy without even having to think about it. Shame on you for thinking this way, Obviously, you have never had a family member or friend who has a mobile disability. If you did, you would know what a struggle it is to do some of the most basic things in life because of the limited accessibility.

I sincerely hope you rethink your position and show some compassion.

The folks who want money should be the mall and other businesses who have barriers keeping customers away. Provide access and you will have more customers making purchases. Advocacy groups bringing access issues into courts could not care less about monentary gains they only want the same level of independence available to people without disabilities.

There is also no sidewalk or cross walk from the cielo vista bus depot to the walmart/sams street. An elderly lady already injured herself there. Everyone needs access to it. Where's the District Rep on this?

Why do the buses now stop so far away from the mall now? I remember they used to stop right next to the old Montgomery Wards.

I remember when those with disabilities complained that Cinemark wasn't providing them with "equal" access because they didn't provide seating at the top of the theater.

Access does not mean "ease of use", it simply means "use of". If businesses provided handicap parking at the back of the lot it would be more "equal" to what everyone else gets. Where do the privileges stop? Here's my take at this, everyone can take it as they wish:

1) Drivers with handicap plates or placards should not be allowed to drive on the left lane or "fast lane" as people in El Paso thinks it is called.

2) Handicap parking should be a) parking spaces wider then standard parking spaces in designated areas, not always in the immediate front of the main entrance. This should be up to the business, based on who they are targeting to shop there, for example a baby store would have such parking for those with children closer to the entrance, while a grocery store may designate near entrance parking for the elderly, while a doctor’s office may offer near parking to handicap patients.

3) Most handicap parking use is abused, by those who could have otherwise parked a space or two further.

And for those who are wondering, yes I could be considered handicapped and every time I park in a regular space (because I don’t want or need a special parking space (wider for the use a wheelchair) I watch in amazement people parking in these spaces that can walk without the use of walking aids, or park there to let wifey out to do her shopping while hubby sits in car, probably because he is handicapped, or visa versa.

Handicap is just as much a part of the out of control cost of medical care as the high cost of doing business for businesses today.

One more thing how much as the ramp installation of corners throughout the city cost taxpayers? This all while most other cities don't even have a sidewalk? Just becuase those few that can't roll on up to the next nearest drive way?

F%$#ing gimps are fascist pigs. Demanding everyone kiss their f#!&ing butts.

They have the best parking and seats everywhere but its not enough. They are mostly angry as hell because of their situations and this is their way of lashing out at the able bodied.

Enough already. Start slashing their wheelchair tires.

Tony's Burrito House ? That is really socking it to corporate America. It is unfortunate that people have become invalids, but does everyone have to pave the way for them with gold ?

I find it disingenuous that you refer to yourself as "handicapped". People with "handicaps" know that terminology went out a long time ago.

alot of times I see people park in Handicrapper spots with a rearview mirror thing ( which I think anybody can make) and run into the store. Most of them from what I can see are just too fat. Why can't they have something more permanent put on their cars with their disease so the normal people don't get the ass. I don't think we would all be so upset if it went to the right people but it looks like alot of people are just milkin the system.

Sorry but before talking look at the statistics. We are not asking the government to do anythihng
Simon Properties has plenty of money to built in a sidewalk for pedestrians to safely transit there establishments. Our families care about us but don't have to care for us, we have something called, INDEPENDENCE.
