Police Probe School Finances

like it or not.........cb is in the county of westmoreland.........cb is not in maryland, not in king george, not in dahlgren. there are duplicated services across the board that the county and town perform.........both sides need to take a look at those services and see who does what the best at the lower cost..........then start a discussion on where they might join forces to provide better service to the people for their tax dollar.......as far as the school goes.........maybe combine schoolboard.....maybe colonial beach takes over, maybe county school board takes over..........either way this country is in for a shock over the next couple of years and towns, county, state, and federal will be cutting cost........end of story.

HB, I agree with you that ALL costs will be cut, but please answer my question. If you consolidate supe's who will be in charge??? CB School Board or WestmoCo Board?

if it is a duly elected board, accountable for the success of all students, then what difference would it make who is in charge?
Though I think it would be based on population....I'm not positive.

drifterboy - i am not advocating either side at the moment, but an honest assessment of the situation needs to be made..........some on here think it will automatically save money, maybe, maybe not..........others would argue that somehow it would change the identity of the town, pride would be lost, probably not........who would be in charge?? if i was king and most of the people on this board could not suffer through my reign......make it an at large board, members eligible from all over the county and town......which in turn would make all members responsible for each school system......they could be voted on every 4 years.......you mess up one system, be it the county or town most likely you would be voted off..........thats one way maybe to do it........i am sure there are several ways that could work.......

I believe those people to be Vicky Dinena and Audrey Berryman. Those are the only employees that I know of that got moved up a postion by Dr. Howard. I don't believe either of them have a college degree..........

this was a last ditch effort on behalf of the OLD school board to get Howard's agenda passed.....as always they went along with anything that she wanted I sincerly hope that the new school board can get these pay increases over turned and give the poor teachers what they deserve!!!!!!!!!!

In a town this size, it is often the case that you can find a relationship between two people, I think the term is degrees of separation.

It seems to me that some straws are being grasped at here to make some of the connections. The rest of the facts need to be broadcast before conclusions are reached. To do otherwise would be just spreading more rumors.

Will you people please stop pointing your fingers at Dr. Howard. It's the School Board who has to approve everything. Guess who elected them ?? YOU DID !!! Cut the crap and put the blame where it belongs. Maybe they were wimps and did exactly what Dr. Howard wanted but the blame still rests on them. In real towns, the School Board runs the Superintendent of Schools. Not here !!! Dr. Howard runs the show. If you haven't figured that out yet then your living in the dark. It's her way or the highway. If Dr. Howard's teachers were not so afraid of her they would gladly tell you. It's sad but very true. Good luck to all the new School Board members. You will need it!! For the record .. I support you TIM and hope you can take the reigns away from the HOWARD-WORRELL DYNASTY.

drifterboy, I know it is easier for you to believe that we don't like the school. If you make that the argument, then you can hide from reason. that's okay, if that is what you need to do. but unfortunately the truth is that this school system just isn't financially feasible. If the schools were turning out some sort of super achieving geniuses, then it might be-but it is just an ordinary public school system, like so many others in the country.

HB-thank you! all I am saying is that there must be some middle ground-we don't have to consolidate. but we can look closely at the administration, and consider ways to conserve funds...I think that there are times when peoples' emotions get in the way with this issue...

Then some please come up with this supposed "middle ground"! If you don't want to consolidate, but on the other hand says it's not economically feasible then what is the answer?? We can all cut corners in our daily lives to save money, as government at all levels should, but nobody on this blog or anywhere else has come up with anything. The dual Superintendent thing has been tried before, and it didn't work out. Then the only other logical choices are to A.) Consolidate or B.) Try and accept that our school is just as flawed as any other and try and make it better!
