Estill fire kills family of 4
“We are a close-knit community. It just touches so many different families.”
An Estill County family of four, including two children, died yesterday when their mobile home burned to the ground.
Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, which was reported about 1 a.m., but witnesses said there was no way to save the family.
'It was just one big ball of flames, according to the person who called it in,' Trooper Chris Lanham said.
'You couldn't do anything' but just watch, said Eva Cox, who lives next door. 'It's just a bad tragedy.'
A family member identified the victims as Keenan Cain, his wife, Misty, and their two children, 8-year-old Dustin and 5-year-old Britney.

It's a shame that this happened but from what I understand the cause of the fire was "smoking in bed", a habit he learned from his Father.
A note to everyone: If you stop smoking, especially in bed, this will not happen to you.

How do you know thats the cause. It doesnt say that in the news story.I wish people wouldnt cast blame so fast. What good does that do.Sounds like you wanted to take a stab at his father for some reason. Not a nice time to show your grudge.

Well, I checked out the final report from the fire department and I know the family. You see, I did research before I said anything. And yes, it is a shame it happened at all.

My brother and his family died as a result of smoke inhalation. The doors on the new wood burning stove they bought would not stay closed. He filled the stove up before going to bed and one of logs rolled and opened the doors. The log rolled onto the carpet, went up the back wall and caught the ceilling of fire. It set the whole place of fire and they were gone within minutes. NONE of them smoked so please stop listening to hear say!!!!!

By brother Keenan, sister-in-law Misty, nephew Dustin, and Neice Britney were wonderful people. They tried very hard to make a good life for themselves, sure they didnt have a lot of money, but the were just as happy as anyone. Where you saw one, you ALWAYS saw the other. They never went anywhere without each other. This is the hardest thing that my family and I will ever have to go through. It is hard loosing one, two, three, but loosing four, only god can see the pain we are facing. It is hard enough to lose someone, but the hardest thing we have had to face is the media, rumors, and lies that are being spread around about our lost loved ones. So, please everyone, just let them rest in peace, dont hold grudges, spread lies, or talk bad about them. We appreciate support and understanding.

The Cain Family,(Keenan, Misty, Dustin & Britney), did not smoke, and I would really like to know who the hell "JAY KNOX" is? I'm pretty sure that He wasn't there with them during Thanksgiving, He wasn't with them at the fire, He wasn't there at the wake, and He wasn't there at the Funeral. Sometimes stupid people find a way to hurt others. You have no idea, what kind of effect, even a statement like that could have on a person. I know that it devestated someone I love very much. I miss my family. Remember, you weren't there, but I was.
