As someone who was once a Deputy at the Madison County Detention Center I find many of the above posts to be nothing more than libel. Ron Devere and his staff run one of the most efficient operations of any jail in the country. Prisoners are treated with the utmost respect and concern for their safety. They are given telephones, Tv's and board games in their cells to help pass the time. In addition, they are served three meals a day, have their clothes laundered for free, and are afforded the opportunity to purchase additional items (candy, cakes, tobacco, etc.) from the mobile canteen. They eat better then I did while I was working there. There are times when prisoners become unruly. There are fights and attacks on the personnel. It is only at these times that the officers use the necessary force to restrain the inmates and ensure their safety. Sometimes they get hurt (as do the deputies), but they NEVER get beaten! A small number of deputies must deal with several hundred inmates each day. In addition to serving meals, passing out mail, passing out medication, releasing inmates for recess and writing reports, there is not enough hours in the day to administer to every complaint that the inmates have, however, they are all considered and prioritized by the personnel. Jail is not a good place, but for many inmates it is better then their own homes. However, many project blame for what they have done unto others (in this case the personnel at MCDC). Most criminals do this. It is this lack of maturity and irresponsible behavior that got them thrown into jail in the first place.

Ridiculous pig propaganda from a self-identified apologist, collaborator, and likely torturer in the concentration camp gulag in downtown Richmond. Smash this pig concentration camp, free its people, and bring its torture-masters to justice.

Resistance is futile...don't try to buck the system in jail. You will lose.

I would like to know if they still have "the chair" you know the one, that has the straps where they can tie you down to beat you? My cousin knows all about that chair, his teeth were knocked out while he was in it. It cost a lot of money for him to get that fixed. There were a few times when he was also taken to the hospital after some of those madison county detention center beatings. He may have a smart mouth, but like Judge Julia told me one time, "sticks and stones may break your bones, but names or words will never hurt you" They have no right to beat anyone up. They have right to restrain them if they are being unruly. But no right what so ever to beat, strike, punch, or kick a prisoner while strapped down to a chair. They also refused to give prescribed medicine to other inmates. I thank GOD every day that I have never had to be put in that hell hole, or any jail for that matter. Poor Dewayne, I hope he gets justice, because that was really dirty...

You are probably right that individual resistance is futile, but mass resistance is necessary--not just in jail, but on the job, in the streets, and in every hood, holler, barrio, reservation, barracks, field, office and school where people are beaten down, robbed, and oppressed for the profits and power of the few. Resist much, obey little. Build a revolutionary resistance movement that can bring down this murderous empire and free its people. Do it for yourself, for the kids, for the future, and for the billions living butchered half-lives around the world under the dictatorship of the corporate capitalist class.
