Our discussions regarding health care tend to involve insurance companies and what they will or will not cover.
We talk about pre-existing conditions. About rising co-pays. About denied insurance claims.
What gets lost in those discussions are the people around us in desperate need of psychiatric care and the many ways it affects us as people and taxpayers.
Russ Scheffer, chairman of the psychiatry department at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, says 29 percent of people meet diagnostic criteria for a psychiatric disorder. That includes everything from depression to anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Read more
