I agree Moe. The spelling is deplorable. It must be the student's at SH defending him. I think remedial courses need to be offering on a 5th grade level...beginning with the coach in question......and his morally bankrupt defender's here.

Some of us have standard's which rise above the level of drug user. We want QUALITY educator's for our children.

Yes we do need to pray and without ceasing but we won't. God know we won't. I just pray that we wake up and begin to pray, it's the only way change is going to come. Now as for this coach. I don't justify his having the chronic at work, that was just stupid but we don't know why he had it. He could have confiscated it off one of the angels attending school. He could have stopped one of his team members from making a sale.....we don't know. He committed a crime of not reporting it and if found to be his, he will do whatever time is given him. He's obviously a stand up guy. No one is perfect and we cannot judge him based on this incident. I would only have a problem if he was sharing with the team or any other student. That is just crossing the line. He's a grown man. He knew having it in school and getting caught would draw attention and he'd be in trouble so, handle it man. I hate to see another pillar in the community go down but whatcha gonna do?

I know Leon and know that he has helped a lot of students in the community over the years, including being a surrogate father for students that did not have one in their own home. Yes, I know that drugs are wrong, but let's not convict until all the facts are out. Just because a small amount of marijuana is found in your car does not mean it is yours or you are a drug user. Last I checked, other people ride in people's cars. If you know anything about East Cleveland, you know that they have bigger issues that they should be tackling. Quite frankly, it is hard to believe that if all cars and lockers were searched, all they found was a small amount of marijuana. That is amazing for this or any other high school -whether urban or suburban. If this is the biggest problem that East Cleveland has - maybe things are looking up.
As a sidebar - Jeff - I don't think that Obama admitted to smoking crack.
OK, so let's test a hair follicle. If it comes up positive for pot, what then? Will the brothah claim someone else is growing hair on his head? I can just hear it now!

I've known Coach Hines for the better part of 25 years. He has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to his students and athletes, and their parents as well. Along with the marching band, Coach Hines basketball program has been one of the few good things that come to mind when I think of East Cleveland.
I find it ironic, therefore, when a police chief speaks of a "betrayal of trust." Whose trust has been betrayed? Students and athletes at Shaw have more fear on the walk to and from school than by his actions. Coach Hines can stand on his record as one of the district's most popular teachers and coaches, as well as the legacy of former players that have gone on to bigger and better things. Who or what other institution in East Cleveland can stand as tall?
If this is as bad as it gets at Shaw High School, parents, students, teachers, and administrators should offer up a prayer of thanks; for surely Shaw must be one of the nation's finest secondary schools.

What kind of flawed argument is this? Where do they instill this kind of Blagic (black logic, clever, huh?) in your people?
The issue here is not how many years of good the coach has performed, the issue is he had dope in his car in the school parking lot, discovered during a drug sweep, FOOL!
If I drove for forty years with no accidents, then got high and ran over your kid, would you talk about the former? Noone is saying he was a bad teacher, substandard coach, etc.
He had weed in his car!(that's illegal by the way, which is why we arrest you folks)

Wow. I guess educational standards are lower when it comes to Cleveland schools? I guess it's a good day in Cleveland when the teachers are only caught with "a little weed"? I find this argument insane. I guess when you don't strive for the best for kids, then you can't wonder why so many of them are in jails or juvenile homes. Look, we have a crisis on our hands. Cleveland is in a crisis. Eleven women found dead, and families don't pursue missing loved ones. A coach found with drugs, and people excuse his behavior, and wonder why Cleveland has so many problems. Wake up people! You should want better for yourselves. You should seek even greater things for your children's future. It starts with a "little weed", then progresses to drug dealing, or drug use which can progress to violence or death. Are your hearts so hardened that you care so little for the ones who will be controlling your future? These children will one day make decisions that control your future, maybe they will rob you for dope, or maybe they will graduate with honors, go on to graduate schools, and make laws that help people improve their lives. Which do you prefer?

The mentality of adults/parents/guardians that think this is OK is appalling to me. It makes me wonder why these neighborhoods have gone so far downhill. Not really, the grammar/usage and opinions of a few of these posts leads me to think your parents really didn’t care if the teacher/coach smoked marijuana either. Make a difference in YOUR child’s life and know what is right and wrong. Educate yourself! I’ll help you on this one…”Ateacher/coach/anyone smoking marijuana is WRONG, regardless of context. Doing Drugs is WRONG, regardless of context!!” These are the easy ones, come on people…
Bonus advice:“an” is not a substitution for “and” and if you are “gone” pray this works out, you must mean you are “going” to pray this works out…I would like to believe these are just typo’s, but based on the opinion attached, it is probably just ignorance….do you child a favor, if you don’t care for yourself, care for them….
HONESTLY YOUR RIGHT!

It's a busy day and you've got quite enough to do without having to cope with people clamoring for your attention and likely to go into a huff if they don't get it. Is this person feeling neglected because you're busily occupied elsewhere or are there other reasons for their demanding mood?
