Does anyone have any interesting stories about the old raceway at Cedar Bluff?I used to attend the late model back in the 70s and remember the strip before that.It was a great place to go to a fight and watch a race break out.I would def. welcome any pics also.

I remember being in Bane's Bottom when the River Rat ran off the end of the track and jumped off of the mountain and landed in Bane's Bottom.

It was something to see. I heard it, and turned around to see the car launch off of the track, clearing the trees on the ridge and then tumbling through the air to land all the way across Indian Creek.

Poor guy...it was a horrible accident.

the drag strip nor the dirt will ever be run again.several houses are up there now.nothing much is left ,the tower at the dirt track has rotted down, the seating is all gone ,looks terrible .the drag strip has large trees growing up through it.the tower has rotted down.it is a shame .could have been a large racing complex.the owners are so greety they dont want anyone else to have it.raced there for years. it had a full field of cars in every class with top notch drivers.this could be the money making thing with many employees.it would be one of the greatest crowds you have seen if it were to open sat. night.what a loss for our community.

to someone who knows.the tracks were sold to jackie ray and jerry richardson by former owners ed cole walt keene and clyde horn.jackie ray sold his part to jerry richardson. in his divorce settlement it went to his wife norma .she ran it for several years and did run it well.it needed a lot of work from storm damage to the lights and sound sound system. i worked there for joe simmons the original owner and builder. i raced both tracks spent a lot of money, but had a lot of fun.would do it all over again.i did not intend to offend anyone by my comments.just trying to give some info..i knew all of these people personaly.sad, jerry is gone ed has alzimers, joe is gone and jackie is sick.god bless anyone who reads this.

ladyracer,2 men from bristol tried to lease the dirt track sometime around 99,they went up there graded the track .the front wall had fallen in .they tore all of the boards off of the bleachers, bought new guard rail, new boards for the bleachers.they cut brush and cleaned the place up.they tore the tower down to the cinder block concession stand.had flyers made with a opening date .i was going to be involved with running it.came time to sign the contract at the lawyers office the owner backed out.all work and money was lost.i know some nascar people were interested.i think they will leave it as is.sorry, could be a lot of money made there but a lot of work too.

Must have been in the '70s and my dad owned a service station here in Phelps Kentucky. After hours he built race engines for the locals.

His best customer, Larry "Hoss" Wolford, owned a '67 or '68 blue Camaro that he raced at Richlands many times. I was somewhere between 7-11 years old and would always look forward to making the trip with them. Now they didn't look forward to my tagging along. As many of you might remember there was a law against four passengers in a pickup during those days. Maybe not a law but nevertheless it was thought to be a no no. So my answer to that when I was the fourth one wanting to make the trip was to ride in the floor of the Ford tow truck on a very hot rubber mat.

Now my father and the guys thought this would be a one time deal and I would give up. Not at all. Don't remember how many times I rode the floor but it was at least 4-5 times before my mother encouraged, told, my dad to start driving a second truck.

Now to the point. This guy, Clyde Horn, the owner of the Alley Cat seemed to be the guy to beat and more often than not we returned home disappointed at the hands of the Cat.

I would enjoy hering more about this car and the owner. Is he still alive? Does anyone know the history of this car and its current state? As a kid I hated this car and its owner but as an adult I have a huge admiration and respect for both.

If you can enlighten me it will be appreciated.
