Hi, I live in Pelican Bay and have recently began to look for wireless internet. I was wondering if anyone here knows of a good and reliable wireless internet provider out here. I really prefer that the install be $200 or less. Thank you in advance.

I don't know if they provide service in Pelican Bay or not, but Unite Wireless <http://unitewireless.com/oindex.html> ; is really good. If they don't go out that far, I bet they could recommend someone. They are very helpful.

SKYWI internet service contract with the city will be cancelled as of July 1, 2008. Poor service, failure to pay monthly fees to city.

I live off 730 N around the High School, and have for over 30 years. The only high speed internet service you can get in our area is by using a wi fi card. I have one with Sprint and it works pretty well. There aren't any towers in our area that aren't blocked by trees or some other nonsense. That's what we get for living in the country. oh well.

I have had Prairienet for three years. Service has been reliable except for a equipment problem once that was out of their control (someone ran off with one of their transmitters and cut some cabling). I spoke with Prairienet the other day and they are massively upgrading their system to handle additional capacity. I would recommend you give them a try.

Prairienet are thieves. They changed names once already and the company is not even in his name for some reason. Their plan was to sign up a bunch of folks and then sell to Verizon when they came out here. I have filed a complaint with the state over the way they took money and never provided the bandwidth they claimed you were getting. You will not get what you pay for. I recorded the bandwidth and ping and during prime time you might as well be using dial up.

What ever you do, do not use SkiWi! We have had them for 2 years now and finally have had enough. Their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. When you call you never can talk to anyone... always have to leave a message. Then they never call you back. After 3 weeks of no response, finally had to go to their office on the Jacksboro. Then they were no help at all. I was hoping over time they would get better but only seems like it is worse. Now looking for another provider.

I have Prairienet now, but am looking into a new provider One Source Communications. Pnet had their system take a big hit with this last round of storms and have been very slow to get back up to speed. Good luck trying to call them and forget any service on the weekends. Choices are slim.

Ah Darkages, there are towers all over the place with WiFi. Prarienet, Skywi (there's one right behind AllSups gas station 199, Boyd, W. Falls, Breckenridge, 730, etc., just to name a few).

Stay away from Prairienet and Skywi , get a Air Card (USB Modem) from AT&T , SPRINT or Verizon , and forget those ripoffs .
5G cap but worth not having down time , I use Linux and love the service I have received with the USB Modem we have .
Always connects and can get Internet anywhere you can get Cell service , even going down the road , try that with Skywi or Prairienet !
Oh , have had both Skywi and Prairienet , Mike and Phil , both are terrible services , even filed with BBB on Skywi .

Springtown, Azle and Reno will be getting Verizon DSL come Sept 2009. How far out it will expand is anyones guess. I can't wait. It will beat anything local.

hughes net is available out here but i have not heard anything good about them. Tony Tincher "picker's corner" has talked to comcast i believe and they said if he gets a petition with enough signatures they will look into it. So hopefully we can get something else out here

Hi Folks,

Thank you Lorrie. Yes I have been in contact with Charter cable and Com-cast and Communicom. I have been asked by Comunicom to draw up a footprint of the area from Decatur to Springtown, as they are in those towns. As I am finding out, there is no available cable in any town in between and there is a good chance that once I send this footprint to the director of acquisitions, he will then present it to his superiors for some kind of action be it positive or negative.
I have also spoke with the folks over at Charter and they informed me that the procedure to obtain cable here would be first to have a petition signed by enough residents of our community and the surrounding area, and then present it to them for review and consideration. I am makeing no promises here, but I think it is time we technologically take a GIANT LEAP into the 21st century here in our wonderful little town.
I do not know which cable company we had before or what the deal is or was with them however I have spoke with some of our Council members and they are very supportive of this action and also agree that our citizens are indeed deserving of the technlogies AND choices that are available elswhere.
I am working on the petition and I will be at the town hall meeting on August 11th if you would like to sign up on there.
Also I would like to ask y'all if you would try to attend the meeting as there will be discussions about how the Pelican Beach project is going and also we will be discussing with the council, the upcoming Fall Festival. I know this is the first you have heard of it but trust me, this will happen and I would like to ask y'all for your support to the City Advisory Commitee in helping to bring these projects to life.
Also the City Advisory Commitee will be meeting this thursday evening if you would like to hear more. We need to get our community to come together folks and these are only a few things we are trying to do and there will be more to come.
I am NO BUSY BODY and I am not trying to RUN NOTHING I am only trying to help bring this community back together or at least a little closer than we are now. It is my belief that the closer knit the community the better place to live and raise our children, and the more inviting it will be to new homeowners and businesses.
OK enough of all this.
Y'all don't forget to come out to Pickers Corner on Saturday evenings at 6pm, it is a blast and you can sign the petition there to....See Y'all and don't forget to stop and say hi to your neighbor.......Tony Tincher

You mean to say that there is still an advisory committee? What a suprise? being that they have done nothing to improve the city. just a bunch of old men sitting around complaining of their old men aliments. they should be ashamed.
is marvis diggs still in charge? Why doesn't he go back to the city where he lives and stay out of pelican bay's affairs. oh that's right, they don't want him either, lol

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Sagittarius

It's time to assess your Christmas preparations. Have you written and posted all your cards? If not, get cracking now while you're in the mood to get them all out of the way. You'll also enjoy a quick trip around the shops to see what's on offer and tick off a few more items on that long list of yours. If you're stuck for a present for someone, maybe you could find a book that they'd like.
