The Burgoyne Surrounded pattern was created during the early-twentieth century, during the Colonial Revival. It was probably adapted from common designs in nineteenth-century woven coverlets It is highly unlikely that quilts of this pattern were even made in the late 18th century, as the predominant style then was a central medallion motif surrounded by borders.
