Landfill proposal is still looming

Full story: The Mobile Register

I said the landfill was one of the first things that came to my mind Three months after Conecuh County commissioners cast a unanimous vote against a proposed 5,100-acre landfill, people on both sides of the issue say the project is far from dead. via The Mobile Register

We live close to the proposed dump sites. What could you possibly give us to support a dump in our backyard? Take your money and your garbage back where you came from!

I also live close to the proposed landfill, and I see it in a whole different light. I see it as an opportunity for Evergreen to be greener than any other city in the United States. Turn garbage into fuel. Hhmmmmm. That shouldn't be a hard decision.

I think the landfill fight is over. For now. The area needs to concentrate on the ongoing issue of being poisoned worse than a landfill ever could. The oil and gas produced polllution and paper mill pollution, should be focused on now. For some reason people choose to ignore it. Even though they smell it.

Garbage Dumps are just that, a place where garbage is dumped. All kinds of garbage toxic and otherwise. Perhaps you need to check out a garbage site first hand and see how really "green" they are. Where heavy boots and a mask to cover your face. You'll need it. What do you think the smell for miles around a dump could be? I don't think it's a nice "green" smell. I don't want that dump in my backyard. Thanks, but no thanks.

I live in Repton, and for one,is sick and tired of seeing these NO DUMP signs everywhere, mostly in resident's yards that look like dumps themselves, very true---just look at all these signs---they are so redneck and ugly looking.I support this dump 100%.To me it seems like everyone is going along with what others decide,if they dont want it,no one does, cant a human being make up his own mind without being influenced by this cult group that calls itself Citizens For A Cleaner Southwest Alabama??I don't and I will not come across as a dumb southerner like Im sure these landfill supporters think people around here are.Think of all the tax dollars generated for this county, then dare I say---the County Commissioner's office does approve of this landfill, whether you like it or not. What are citizens gonna do--move when it happens? Some may,but let's face facts---most don't have those kind of resources,so they will stay put and learn to accept it.Don't fight this battle unless you can win---do you have the resources to hire high powered attorneys---I doubt it.
There are alot more around here that support this landfill than you might think.Besides,I'm sure the way they(Conecuh Woods) see it,unfortunately-----heck---Re pton looks like a dump,so let's build one there.....I bet that's the joke that's going around.
So once again, drive around and look at everyone around here with the NO DUMP sign and tell me if their property doesn't look like a dump itself---the truth is there and everone driving through here can see that....it's tacky.....
