We have GOT to change the law in South Carolina making it a severely punishable offense when a careless/reckless/indifferent driver causes the death of law abiding people just riding thier motorcycle down the road. At this time our state has NO law pertaining to Vehicular Manslaughter and or Homicide. Petitions anyone? How many bikers are here in South C that are tired of having thier friends die and nobody being held accountable for it?? I know I am. lets do something about it! Its too late for Barry & Nicole, but its not too late to honor them by changing the law. START A PETITION AT http://www.ipetitions.com/

It's a sad terrible thing, but when will SC make it a law to wear helmets? This could have saved their lives!

Unfortunately, in this case, helmets would not have saved them, and even worse, they were only going 19 mph. We have recently discovered that 5 people died in the same spot within a week. The city has an obligation to make this area safer.
A petition has been circulating for some time. I will try to find where it is located. |

I am very sorry for your loss step sister. I can not begin to imagine what that feels like so I am not going to pretend that I do. One thing I know for sure is that drivers do not pay enough attention to motorcycles on the roads. in my family we have 5 and we ride all the time and we have had a few close calls. It is stupid that people are that careless and do not have any respect for another person's life.

With the current increase in population in this state, and the horrible traffic conditions... making the decision to ride a motorcycle for transportation instead of a automobile can be the difference between your life and death! Not only does it matter that you are experienced in how to correctly maneuver a motorcycle, but your life depends on the people driving around you more so than if you were inside an automobile. Too many deaths are happening to people on bikes, vs automobiles and I really think the statistics will show that both are equally at fault. I myself prefer to go back to the days of riding horses!

My condolences and prayers for your loss.
I was thinking the samething. Even if they were wearing helmets doesnt mean they would have lived. But many refuse to wear them because they like the freedom. But when you make that decision you also make the decision that you are taking more of a risk. I have ridden motorcycles for a few years, last week I rode a mile to the gas station without one for the first time. It felt weird. But it has been on back since and will. I have only laid a motorcycle over once and I wasnt going very fast. Actually my front brakes locked as I was turning into my driveway. I had scratch marks on my helmet. That would have been my head. If I hit my head like that 30 or 40 it would have been over. |

Unfortunately, SC roads aren't safe for anyone no matter how they are traveling. Innocent people are murdered everyday on SC roads and like this case many of the people who actually cause the accident are never charged for the murder that they have commited. SCHP is no help because just like this couple my Dad was an innocent victim of SC roads except for he was walking across the street in a well lit area when he was hit by the woman and of course they aren't charging her with anything either. They have actually said that the accident was my Dad's fault. When will SC change its laws to protect its people traveling on SC roads against drivers being negligent?

So many folks here can't drive period!!!!! I won't ride my motorcycle anywhere near Summerville/Charleston area. They are very rude, nasty drivers that, I feel, intentionally drive like idiots to try to cause accidents. Maybe if SC would change some of their laws, and acutally follow through on them, we wouldn't have half of the accidents that happen here.
My sincere sympathy and prayers are with you and your family. |

I personally agree with no manslaughter law here. I'm sure the driver feels much sympathy for the family and has to live with this for the rest of their lives. Why tear them away from their family for something that was an accident. If it is murder or drunk driving then send them to jail for life but all accidents should be forgiven. It's called having compassion not seeking revenge. That's what's wrong with society today.

Jay are you kidding me??? You EVIL a**hole how dare you slander the names of those whom so many obviously love and miss very much. I knew both of them in some way but I was close with Nicole.. she was a violence prone person ? You obviously know NOTHING about her.. she had been in ONE physical altercation and it was with her best friend on a night many years ago. She was not violent at all. She was not addicted to any drugs either. We all got a little crazy when we were younger but at the time of her death she had actually started turning her life completely around. She would of been a great contribution to our society. She wanted to be a forensics investigator and had just finished getting her diploma/ged I don't remember which but she was on a path to a beautiful life. You wouldn't know any of these things though would you Jay?? I don't know what one of them did that pissed you off but u should burn in hell for saying things like that. RESPECT THE DEAD! It doesn't matter if you don't like them why are you on here commenting on someone apparently you can't stand ???

& I don't know why this woman should not be punished in some way... at least make her attend driving classes. I'll tell you this much I don't get NEAR a motorcycle on a road. Since this has happened I am 10x more cautious. Accidents happen.. but if you are in a car it is your duty to look out ESP. for those on motorcycles, bikes, or on foot. Maybe not manslaughter but there def DOES need to be some type of consequence. This woman took 2 young lives and we can get tickets for speeding 5miles over? Please

I ride a motorcycle. I have only ridden my bike one time and not worn a helmet. Personally I don't think it is a very wise decision not to wear a helmet. But the law doesnt require and I beleive in keep the darned government out of making my decisions.I don't want them governing what I can or can't do here. They already got there mits in to much of my personal life. I also think its stupid not to wear a seat belt in my car when driving. But it should be my decision not the govts to tell me that I have to. Now the govt is out there firing CEOs of major companies. I know they let the govt in with there excepting funding. But throw the jerkheads in jail if they are doing something illegel. IF the company is to stupid to do something about it if someone is running them into the ground. Maybe they shouldnt be in business. |

Also if you dont have a liscense to drive a motorcycle, you shouldnt be on the road with one. No liscense, no drive.....period. Some people put themselves in situations they shouldnt be in.

I haven't lived in SC very long, but I can attest that SC is way behind in laws that protect innocent persons. The woman who did not yeild to the motorcyclists should be criminally charged. It is blatant and offensive behaivor to not pay undivided attention to the road and the rules of the road when you are behind the wheel. My bet is she was talking on her cellphone or worse yet, texting somebody. The family should have someone check her phone records and find out if she was on the phone at the time she didn't yeild, then sue the idiot woman who caused their deaths. And all you self righteous ones that think helmets would have saved their lives, try running your bike into a truck helmet on or helmet off and see what happens, it makes little difference, trauma and internal injuries kill most accident victims regardless of helmets or not, so get off your high horses, these motorcyclists did absolutely nothing WRONG, you that are so quick to judge!!

Guess what Jay, it's your turn next (that Karma thing you were talking about) Wish you luck, sounds like you are gonna need it! |
