I have a 07 sequoia which had 2 catalytic converters stolen in CHAPEL HILL at the park-n-ride for UNC. My estimate for fixing it is $3600. I think I will tape a $100 bill under there when I park for them to take next time.

Two nights ago my brother caught someone trying to steal my catalytic converter from my 99 Toyota Tacoma. Luckily he yelled at him through the window and the African American in his 20's ran away on foot. Someone else saw him in our neighborhood a couple of nights before that under someone else's vehicle. Who's paying cash for these converters? That's where the problem lies...

2003 Tacoma 4X4 Catalytic converter stolen from Davis, CA park and ride (US 80 & Mace Blvd) 7/22/08 About a grand to et it fixed. The Davis Police told me that they patrol that lot about 4 times a day. I looked under other hirer vehicels and they all seemed intact...

Well I had mine stolen 07/26/08 off of my Toyota 4 runner in a parking lot in Garden Grove, Ca. Went on a vagas turn around trip and returned to a car that sounded like a jet engine. My son looked underneath and saw they had cut the pipe at either end of the cat converter and removed it. I had no idea that this was a trend but when
I called the muffler shop to get it fixed he said he had seen at least 7 toyota vehicles in for the same thing in just the last week from Garden Grove. So what am I to do now? It makes you afraid to go anywhere. Hell they are even taking them right out of peoples driveways!!!!!!!!!! |

My check engine light went on along with the VSC TRAC and TRAC OFF lights. I had a diagnostic ran on my truck and the code P00420 came up . Stating I needed a new cat. And everywhere I called siad myrunner SR5-V6 requires a Toyota dealer cat only. And a universal one for my truck is not legal and will not pass the emissions/smog. Can some one give me some insight on this???

I live in California, so the this cat emissions law I guess took effect this year.

I was able to replace mine with a after market
cat for my 1998 4Runner for $250.00 including labor. I was told they are more interested in the manufactured toyota part not the after market. These theives don't get as much money for them. I don't know about any of you but I am not going to put out over $1000.00 just to have it stolen again!!!!!!!!!! These after market ones will pass smog!!!!!!!!!! |

I just got mine stolen a few nights back in Seattle. It cost me 900 bucks to get fixed. I just put in an order for CatClamp so I'm hoping that works. All the articles I read make it sound pretty awesome.

Well I found out this A.M.(7/30/08) that I am the latest target of converter thieves. They hit my 2006 tundra in the parking lot of the hotel. $2,755.00 in parts alone. The bad part is I have a $1000 deductable. I am afraid to replace them as they will just be stolen again. I'm trying to find skid plates to protect them.

I had mine stolen last night from the parking lot where i work! i have a 1997 toyota 4-runner and i have friends that work on car that are replacing it for about $200. I am lucky compared to some that are paying $1000-$2000! Maybe its different price for different cars, because situation is like peppy patti.
The car can be drivable but no one would recommend it. It can do damage to the car. Without the converter it kinda sounds like a ricer. Trust me you'll know when its missing!!!! |

I guess I will join the club, I was parked in a pay parking lot and come out to start my T-100 and it sounded like a stock car!! The San Diego police said it is definetly on the rise again. The dealership said that they are doing about two trucks a week, Yikes!! It was suggested to me to get the new one welded on, however if they want it they can still cut them off too. Warn all the Toyota truck owners you know!! tommy p

I had a custom plate fabricated for my 07 Tacoma after calling catclamp and finding out they only make their clamp for the passenger side cat, wanted BOTH the passenger and driver side cats protected. They are both accessible to get stolen. Now I don't have to worry about either one coming up missing.

they attempted to steal my converter last night. i have a 04 tacoma prerunner but the job wasnt completed it was just hangin there. praise God for the help.

they got one from my 91 4x4 last night in front of my house in beaverton oregon. Called police and they gave me name of a shop that will weld the new one to the body to prevent further theft, maybe. Also called parts shop and they say they get calls for toyota cats all the time..
