It's time to get rid of the elitist and racist KHYC that rents from the City.

They really need to tear down the whole pier and start over. Currently, it reminds me of a third world country.

If you think the pier accurately represents Redondo Beach and the South Bay, then you’re a moron. Maybe you should move down south… Jonathan wrote: <quoted text> #1: Have you ever been to a "third world country"? #2: What about the pier seems "third world" to you? What a stupid statement.

I would like to see some renovation to the pier... Harvelle's is a great night spot, and that area could use a modern outdoor dining area (not a hot dog stand). Getting rid of some of the cheesy shops would be a good start. Another thought would be to upgrade a part of the pier to be more like Santa Monica pier. I know it costs money, but I'm sure there are wealthy developers that may have an interest.

Hey RB Mom--I love that hot dog stand--especially the lemonade after a long bike ride along the path! Furthermore, Redondo is unique enough to not have to resort to "be more like Santa Monica." Btw, the bike path takes you all the way to Santa Monica if you'd like to venture out!

Koj wrote: Did the author proof read this piece? It's all disjointed and makes little sense. The DB has gone so far downhill with local news there is little point in reading this rag any more. Actually, Koj, as a journalist who has worked in daily news as a copy editor and reporter for the last 20 years, I can tell you that this story is structurally and grammatically solid. I wouldn't change a thing. However, you are correct about the local coverage going downhill. That was bound to happen when Dean Singleton's MediaNews took over. But don't blame the reporter or copy editor; blame the newspaper owner who doesn't care about your community.

What is wrong with the pier, some of you ask?! It is an aging, run-down, dated, abomination, which attracts little more than out-of-towners. This includes, of course, the abysmal boardwalk. And Old Tonys looks like it could fall into the sea at any moment. Go down there!! It is virtually deserted many weekdays, and an inner-city-by-the-sea in the weekends. Intimidation is commonplace. I am all for a multicultural society, but this place mostly caters for everyone except for it's local residents. It is clear that precious few South Redondo residents venture down there. Nothing to attract them!! I deter our overseas visitors from going there. It is an embarrassment to the city.

There are quite a few local regulars. I love it when people talk about things they know very little about actually. Please don't change a thing. I like it just the way it is. If you want f in disneyland then f in go there.......
