A Dallas County woman is warning North Texans who drive sport utility vehicles about a theft outbreak.

Low lives that don't wanna work for a living. Could also be supporting a drug habit. Either way need to be caught and jailed. But they will probably be caught and get a slap on the wrist. People who give police a hard time, need to think about all the times they catch people like this and Lawyers and Judges put them right back on the street again. Police get sick of doing it.

Time to make the purchasers of scrap metal accountable. Let's license them the same way they do pawn shops, and use the same set of regulations.

Or at the very least have them get drivers license numbers and names and address, if they don't have a Drivers license they can not sell to the scrap metal dealer. And like wise if the scrap metal dealer can not provide proof of where the metal came from, them they are held responsible.

The same thing happened to my Toyota 4-Runner on April 3, 2008 from my office parking lot off Trinity and Amon Carter in Ft. Worth. I feel her angry. I too wanted to choke the person. I can't believe that $50 would be worth the agony being caused to others. My total repair cost was $2300.00. Luckily the insurance paid the majority but I am out $500 for the deductible. I really hope that the cops catch the people responsible.

I had mine stolen from in front of my house. I filed a Police Report and I am hoping to hear that they are doing something more about it! I was lucky, mine was not $1700!

you know it is just that people don't care about others people property any more. There once was a time my parents when i was growing up could park down the street of a small country town and leave their wallet on the front seat of their vehicle, and come back and the car would be untouched and the wallet still on the seat, you try that now and your car will be broken into within about 30 seconds. people have lost all respect for each other these day, its like you have something i want, well i am going to take it weather you say i can or not. So freaking stupid.

something needs to be done to these crooks. I cannot sleep in my appartment cause I worry about someone doing this. this has gone on too long and have heard many stories about this. We are tired of it! Police need to find ways to capture thiefs.

Police capture thieves all the time. People need to start taking a little more responsibility and installing say car alarms. They do help deter vehicle crimes.

I don't think they deter crimes any where near what your thinking. Car alarms go off all the time, people hardly pay attention to alarms any more, because they go off a lot of the time just from a bird pooping on the car.

They tried to take mine (Honda Element) in my driveway in the middle of the night. Caused $4,000 damage to the converter, exhaust, and wiring harness. Checked with car alarm installers, and they all say no car alarm will work to prevent someone sawing into your exhaust under the vehicle - even with vibration sensors - alarm just won't go off.

Someone in my neighborhood had their car burglarized the other day. The ******* broke out the driver's window and took some loose change. All that effort for some coins. Amazing... |

I totally agree with you there! It is merely an annoyance to residents, and something people try to tune out. squirrels in our area activate them regularly. |

I hardly ever take notice of a car alarm, unless it is when I am trying to sleep. i think car alarms are more of a menace then a deterrent, I mean even thieves know not many people take note of alarms. i think the coolest little idea i have seen (available on some up scale cars) is a remote on your keys that tells you someone is messing with your car.

Have someone who can do it crawl under your vehicle and etch the plate number of your car in BIG letters and numbers and when the thieves see it they know they cannot sell it at a local scrap yard. And, It can be tracked by police.

That sounds awesome. I think it would be cool, tho, to have a system that, when activated, creates an electrical field around the vehicle. THAT would be awesome, too! |

Most thieves if not all test the car for a car alarm before they attempt to commit a theft. Most wont stick around when it goes off. If you had a car alarm you wouldnt ignore it would you? Sure they are annoying but they do work.

Some years back, nine cars were hit in my complex. Yeah, I heard car alarms, but did nothing because it was such a common occurence; several of the cars had overly sensitive alarms, do I was just used to them going off. At least the cops came because of the number of cars hit, because they usually take the reports over the phone. |
