Customs agents find giant beetles in box mailed to Berks County

Jelly doesn't make scratching noises, so postal workers in Mohnton, Berks County, figured the box labeled "toys, gifts and jellies" contained something more animated than that.

Do you think this could be some kind of plot to destroy our food crops? We used to feed the world - now we import just about everything!!!

No. It was just somebody who had an interest in the beetle and probably just wanted to keep them as pets as I do with scorpions and tarantulas.

I happen to live in Mohnton as well. It was funny because at the post office I was picking up a box of live scorpions and they jokingly asked me if I was the guy who got caught with the beetles! LOL
