Let me get this straight, they want more bilingual educators, but they dont want to pay the very taxes that would pay the educators salarys. Integration is another word for adaptation. We need more programs to teach english to the latino community. That would open new doors to higher education, which would lead to better employment, and a better way of life for them and their families.

I agree....LEARN English just like any other immagrint did when they came over on the boat from Europe in the early 1900's. Also when they are here, remember crime does not pay. When you look at the police reports 90% of those listed have a hispanic name. I do not know if all you did in your home land was knife and kill but here it is unacceptable.

In other words, it's what they can milk from the system, without giving anything back to the community. I did not see a one thing in the story about what they can do themselves to make it a better community, but instead what everyone else around them can do to make it better for them. Real nice.

Lesson number one speak English. This is America and while we are the melting pot, we also speak English as our language. Go to any other country and demand they print government documents in English, provide translators when you vote, and all the other wasteful things we do to avoid from forcing people to speak the American language and you will be laughed at and sent on your way. But nooooooooo the politically correct crowd would have us kissing the feet of those who come here legal or illegally, because we would not want to offend them. Well, your PC offends the majority of Americans. Leanr English or simply put, go back to your own homeland. Tough love, but Americans are sick and tired of having to always bend over.

So far everyone has made excellent points. What is the Hispanic popultion going to do to help themselves. Why should America conform to the indiviuals who are moving here? Shouldn't we be saying to the immigrants here are the rules of the land and the expectation we have of you. If you don't like what is expected, then youa re not allowed to come here. I also believe that The U.S. should approach Puerto Rico and tell them they are either going to become a state or they will have to be on their own and no longer recieve the benefits the U.S. receives. It is sad that many of the latino population would rather teach laziness and how to milk the system then self suffiency.

well, I like everyone's blog and you guys are right, learn english, learn that welfare is not a way to earn a living, learn that everyone should have there own family and own home, learn how to respect your neigbor and neigborhoods, no killing and also get the ones without green cards out of here and back to where they came from. Every other race seems to be gone, but they just keep growing, why....I dont understand but Reading will not be anything but them, so I guess they are getting ready for the take over...

AS a hispanic who hasnt read any of the posts i have a few things to say. All these organizations are set up to make hispanics believe that they don't have to learn english or work, they teach them how to use the system. No other country in the world has been willing to give up their identity like america has. Instead of foreigners learning our culture and language (mainly hispanics) they learn that america is a land that owes them something. Hispanics are the worse at this. When asians and other foreigners come to america they learn the language and get a job, and these foreigners are also the last ones to cry racism if any little thing doesn't go their way. I am personally sick of foreigners having this sense of entitlement. THis is not what our founding fathers believed or fought for. Nothing that is free is worth fighting for and this is what is happening in america today. Whether it's the foreigners or welfare or the Indians getting a bunch of tax free deals america will probably never be what it once was. Shame on us for allowing this to happen.

Although I agree with all these comments, I live in Reading and experience the deterioration of our community EVERY DAY - it is very difficult to keep a positive outlook when you are confronted with this day in & day out - but I think it is unfair to judge the whole hispanic population - There are some very good hispanics - just like not all blacks are bad people, not all Asians are bad people and not all white people are bad - ALL races of people have the low life scum running about trying to buck the system - I don't know why.. for example - with the spanish speaking community - have we done such things as using taxpayer money to print voting/political/governmental documents in bilingual format./ America has not done this for any other group of immigrants!!!!? Why Hispanic?
The city raised the recycling fee a few years back from $30 to $60 / year - because they claimed they were loosing money - But every week I witness ??unemployed - >??? or maybe they are illegal aliens who use MY recycling bin as their source of income - so once again the burden of paying for this goes back onto the real taxpayers of the city - THIS in UNFAIR - we need to hold the politicians accountable for what is happening in this city.
THEY are the ones responsible for running the good law abiding citizens out - by allowing the SCUM and GANGS and THUGS take over the city - and it will only get worse - now that we are loosing more police/fire fighters -
THEY ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM - or they'll just wait until all the good people leave the city.
WISE UP!

That's funny...more & more vehicles & homes are sporting the flag of Puerto Rico; just look at our schools. You'd think we're living in PR! Greatest mistake the U.S. could have made is to make Puerto Rico a State! It's opened a whole can of worms! And as far as the "expansive growth in population", it's more like a freakin' explosion if you ask me. They start having kids at age 13 & 14 which is against the law (at least here in the real U.S.); then we the "public" are forced to pay higher taxes to offset the bad choices these kids have made & continue to make EVERY DAY! Get real!

1 Since they "combed" the streets of Reading, did they happen to uncover and arrest any of the thousands of Latino gang members, their mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandmothers who are supporting them?
2 Did they happen to find any of the hundreds of guns they use to terrorize Reading and Berks innocent citizens?
3 Did they ask the Latinos how integration into our once beautiful city involves illegal guns, acquiring millions of dollars from illegal drug sales, stealing vehicles, committing home invasions, daily street beatings, robberies, and burglaries?
4 Did they ask the Mayor why they themselves have overpopulated the city by moving here and procreating at an alarming rate?
5 Did they affirm or deny that they come here for more freebies, free educations, free food, free housing, free health care, free guns and drugs?

5 Did they first ask the Latino drug dealers for the money they require since dealers always have lots of money?

6 Did they ask their Latino mothers if they know any criminals in their community who have committed unsolved murders or rapres, burglaries or robberies?

7 Do they know that committing crimes, filling our prisons, costing us millions in court costs, destroying homes, living without the proper permits, operating their businesses illegally does not endear them to the citizens of Reading or Berks?

8 Do Latino mothers know they are responsible for their own children and their behaviors? Why are they out at Walmart at 11 PM on a school night with their little school aged children running wild in the aisles?

9 Does Hogar Crea know we do not want to but their products or be bothered by them?

10 Do these community representatives go to all of the funerals of innocent victims and police officers murdered by the Latinos they represent?

11 Do the airplanes only fly into Berks County filled with Latinos and never sell them return tickets?

12 Were all of these ever so needy Latinos kidnapped and hog-tied as slaves when then came to our once safe and beautiful area?

13 Why don't they go to LaRaza for money nand assistance?

I don't know the answers, do you?

Did they find the Dominincan Latino "husband" who shot and killed his wife then disappeared?
He was an Hispanic "businessman" and leader in the Latino community. Did the look for him yet?

Can the Latina, old and young, stop setting up card tables where we are supposed to park while they are holding the space for their Latino cars?

Do you think the girls could stop carrying razo blades intheir hair to slash people on the face?

Could the Latinas stop holding/hiding the guns and drugs for their home boys in the gangs?

Do they know that they are costing the city and county millions yet have the audacity to ask for lower taxes? Isn't that cheeky?

Can't the good summit members form their own antigang initiatives or is that always up to the taxpayers and the brave police?

Could they stop blasting their music as they drive or are they all deaf already?

Can't these Hispanic leaders walk the streets at night and talk to the violent and drugged dealers hanging on the corners and ask them why they are criminals destroying the city? Can't they see what we see?

Can the citizens of Berks ask for only Latinos who speak English, already have an good education from their own nation, are honest, hard-working people of good character?

Isn't the best anti-gang initiative one that involves good and firm parenting at home from birth through adulthood?

Is it true that many Latino gang members are members the minute they are born to a gang mother or father and they are raised to be good gang members and leaders?

Did these leaders/volunteers first go to the corporations that hire the Latinos and ask them for money to assist in paying more taxes, feeding the hungry, paying for more teachers, giving the school districts more money?

Do they know Berks citizens would like to fight for lower taxes, lower crime, safer streets, neighborhoods not ruled by Latino gangs, etc. but they can't because the Latinos already have created a such a degraded and hostile city and school district?

Puetro Rico is not a state it is a territory. They are allowed to have all the rights that we as americans have, but don't have to pay taxes or follow our laws and it stinks.
