I'd like to know who her customers were.
Were they locals? Where are the outraged owners of these horses????? It isn't going to happen but I would like to see her left outside with a blanket & no food and feel the harsh elements. I'd drive by & throw her an apple. |

I tell people that if the person boarding horses is the cheapest around. You get what you pay for.
Sometimes you get people that only know about shoveling manure. But nothing about horses and horse care. There has been a case in portage county where Many of the horses of a cheap boarding facility. Got horribly sick.. From ignorance of the owner. He fed them grain that had mold in it. Resulting in horrible colic and intestinal problems. The result was a mass exudes at night. Where Most of the boarders All left at one time. So IF the place is real cheap. Sometimes its your horses that pay the price. AMY |

Misdemeanor charges? Seriously?

Not all of those horses were boarded, some were hers. I don't board my horses, I keep them at my home where they are lovingly looked after every day.
It is total BS that she is claiming that she thought grass alone was enough for them. Horses don't starve to death overnight - and a starving horse LOOKS emaciated long before it drops dead. There is NO excuse for this. I would give my horses away, or turn them over the APL myself if I could no longer provide for them before I would leave them out in the yard to starve to death. And NOBODY is dumb enough to believe that she didn't know they were starving. You would have to be blind and have never touched one of them not to know. Misdemeanor is not enough. If she is as stupid as she is claiming to be, she needs to NEVER own another animal again - EVER. But since the charges are misdemeanors only, she will probably get a small fine, and be able to keep the rest of her horses. God help them. |

This woman is a vile individual who deserves exactly what she gave those animals-cruel and unusual treatment.
At the very least, leave her out for the next 7 days with no protection from the cold and no food. Then let her take her punishment from the penal code under FELONY charges. Then take away her farm and prohibit her from ever owning any animals of any type ever again. This is reprehensible and inexcusable. |

My first question is, aren't licenses in order for this type of business? I drive past there every day on my way home.....to Brimfield. The house and property are well maintained. Does she own the property or is she renting. If she is renting what about the owner? Any liability there?
She certainly needs to be charged with more than she has been. And the owners have some responsibility as well. Lord, I hope she doesn't have any kids.....somebody better check! |

In the state of ohio the first offense is a second degree misdemeanor and every count after that is supposed to be a fifth degree felony. I hope that the prosecutor's office handles this in that way. We must continue to put pressure on them to do so. The other boarders should bear some responsibility for not reporting it earlier.

To answer your first question. No not for a horse boarding stable which falls under agri. Not like a dog or cat kennel. |

I pass by this farm everyday. I did not notice the dead horses laying around until the story broke. It is difficult to see how horribly sick and skinny the horses were while driving by.
I did notice that there were never enough hay bales for all the horses to feed on. The horses were kept outside all day and night in all weather. There was no shelter. She recently moved the horses to the back pasture, probably in an effort to hide the horrific conditions they were in. The article said that some horses were partially burried. It is against the law to bury horses anyway. You are supposed to call the livestock removal men. They haul them away for about $60. This lady drives a big, fancy truck with the farm's name on it. She should spend money on horse feed instead of her truck. Her dogs are often running loose in the street in front of her house. One of them will probably be the next victim of her neglect and abuse. People need to call the aspca as soon as they realize that they cannot provide proper care and food for horses, as well as all animals. Call before it's too late. Horses are very expensive to care for, but don't make them suffer because you cannot afford care, or just don't care. Give the animals a chance elsewhere. This lady should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. She will rot for what she has done already when she leaves this earth. I hope that NO animals are left there in her care. What about the current boarders? Didn't they notice that horses were starving and dying around them? It is really bad when several horses die at the same time. |

I heard about this while I was in the middle of an article in Scene Magazine about an identical situation in medina county. This woman had a record of cruelty also.
I cringe at the idea of greater regulation of nearly anything but someone in a position of power ought to at least look into the posibility that this is a growing or already widespread problem.??? |
