I can see trying to detain him.
It keeps him from hurting himself and hindering others trying to help him.

But to arrest him and then charge him?
It seems a bit extreme
Surely the officers there could relate to the fact the he was obviously not thinking clearly and was frantic.
Do they really need to waste my taxe dollars on this one? Jesus people, theres real crime to be fought out there.
Did you convict the damn rapist who murdered 6 women?
Hows about asking those officers how the hell they managed to overlook that one
Go figure

Seems like the police here made an error in judgement on arresting him. They now have to stand by their error in judgement or they think they will look like fools. Drop the charges and admit they were made in the heat of the moment, and let things be. The guy probably thought there was someone or something still in the house that needed to be rescued, person or pet. Most times the police jump the gun, they stick to their decision until they look like fools to the media and public.

Keystone cops at their best! They will continue to distort the truth in their favor! I don't think any of these cops will ever tell the TRUTH!

I am sure the police fabricated all kinds of crap on their arrest report. This guy will have to spend thousands of $'s on a lawyer to fight the bogus crime, or save his money, plead guilty, and move on with his life.

Interfering with a fire fighter trying to perform their duties is a felony. This is why he wasnt let go. People on fire scenes think they are helping or trying to help when they just get in the way. This guy put his life in danger as well as others yeah there was a problem and all you people crying about it need to get a life.

If he wants back in the fire and thats where he wants to be, then so be it. Mr Bartlett could have gotten somebody killed, he may have been in panic but its still no excuse for his actions. I would have zapped him too. He was probably more worried about his stash in the house and not so much on "rescuing" family.

The only way the police can forceably "detain" you is to arrest you......
If you're not under arrest, you're free to go .....
If you insist on entering a burning building......They have no choice but to arrest you...

Someone is right on the ball with this one. Not a policeman but you are correct on that one.

Then how's about they take the money to pay for this stupid charge out of your paycheck and not mine?
Sounds fair

They can take it out of your paycheck too.
There a rapist who police just found 10, count them 10 bodies in his house of dead and raped women
Don't know about you, but I would rather police spend more time on cases like this and less time on cases like charging a frantic man who thought people were still in his house, that was on FIRE by the damn way!, with criminal mischief.

Then I have to pay for this crap too because I'm sure there will be a civil suit to follow this charge.

You and the firefighter can pay for that too.
