FYI,RPD among other agencies are tracking the IP address to the computer in which these post are being made from. So continue your talking with false information but eventually you are all gonna pay the cost for playing games with peoples emotions and family. It may be funny to most of you but do you ever think of the families, wives, children that also pay the cost of things written on this forum? Or you that cruel and indecent in your own pathetic lives that you do not care whom you hurt?

Don't doubt for a minute the PD monitors this site.
However, tracking IP's will lead you to the Internet Service Provider, and it takes a court order to get the name and address of the person's computer. Also it is hard to prove, as many times several people use one computer, or if their router is unsecured someone could sit on the street and post using their IP number. So instead of spreading paranoia, perhaps it is best to say watch what you post, as under the right circumstances your computer can be confiscated or you could get in trouble. However, depending on what state you live in, nothing usually comes of it except it is used as additional evidence against someone.

LOL - can you imagine if they arrested everyone who posted nasty things about people on the internet? The courts would be jammed up for years.

If some of you didnt know, no disrespect intented, but everything you say on this site is covered by the first amendment aka FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Unless they have a valid legal reason to bk search your information, it will take a court order, which requires the police to prove you did something wrong n can link ur feeedom of speech to crime! So don't threaten cuz that's not covered lol

What constitution did you read? The Freedom of Speech does not apply to a private website. Nor does the Freedom of Speech protect against charges of slander, libel, or crimes.

Your "rights" here are dictated by the Topix "Terms of Service," agreement and the written "Privacy Policy."

Wrong! Anyone can sue Topix to reveal users' ISP information in civil court. Of course they would also have to sue the users' internet service provider to identify the person.

they can get the ip but inorder to pursue defamation and slander is hard the individuals mist have been affected severely such as loss of job, divorce etc. if you look up defamation it will explain it. so instead of trying to instill fear in everyone maybe u should get the facts correct. because its actually pretty difficult to sue on those grounds

the cops dont give a crap about all this stuff. if they did than all these drug dealers that are talked about on here would be in jail. DUH!

I was not referencing the drug dealer, I was responding to the person stating the cops r tracking comments that may pertain to them. raton is such a small town I don't think the copa need topics to point them.out genius. who even uses that word anymore '"duh".
