Putting in more native vegetation ought to help. It's the fennel, mustard, wild oats, pine trees that seem to really burn bright. Maybe the native vegetation will keep the inferno down to a minimum.

Hmm. Native is less volatile than invasive. There may be a special lesson there someplace.

it's the kind of landscape that burned regularly before people were there, and the mustard, fennel and oats are native, not invasive. Fire used to be part of the natural cycle. Its the fastest way to get rid of fuels buildup and helps keep invasive species to a minimum. Cities on the hill should take a gander at Australia's Stay or Go program and teach their residents, through meetings, pamphlets, etc (and enforce it on the fringes) about Shelter-in-Place building and remodeling to help reduce damage to their homes in case of these fires.

Prescribed burns are pretty much not an option, I'd guess.

Virgo

So much love and effort. You want the day to be a big success, and it's going to be that way. You'll be very popular if you can bring some spontaneity to the day, such as springing an exciting surprise on everyone or swapping a tired old tradition for something much more interesting. You might also have an unexpected visitor at some point.
