Is there no way a video camera could be lowered into the well instead of a man? Seems a lot safer to me.

Great idea. ask a plumber and get one of the sewer cams, but ya know, it is out here in the sticks and there are just a bunch of rednecks in the local police heck we didn't get cable until a couple of years ago. Again remember the tallapoosa group who back in the 70's tapped the gas line. Some of those are in the comissioner's office. They really don't want to look too deep. They might find something else

Let me set your a** straight on a few things Video Man. I lived in this area all my life (52 years) until last November. So I can speak from first hand knowledge about the items below.

1. I came to work for TPD in 1979 and worked a few years with the City of Tallapoosa. I will admit that they do not have access to a lot of the items larger departments do in their fight on crime. I have a nephew who works there now and I resent your labeling him a redneck. The local law enforcement does as good a job as they can with the resources they have. My son is a law enforcement officer for the State of Georgia and he is from this area too and he damn sure if no redneck. And I damn sure am no redneck because I still consider this area (West Georgia) my home.

2. As far as the cable issue. I do not know what area you are from, but when I first came to Tallapooa in 1979 there was cable and guess what they have indoor plumbing too you smart a**.

3. You did get one fact right that this area was where the "Tallapoosa Twenty" came to light from their involvement in the gas tap on the pipeline. But guess what dipstick, a local police officer. who was later my Chief of Police there was the one who actually started the whole ball rolling that discovered this crime. Not bad for a "redneck" according to your description.

I will grant that the Haralson County area has it issues(like a useless City Manager in Tallapoosa IMHO) as well as other counties in the area. However to use a broad brush to paint this area as you did is a true testament to your lack of knowledge (ignorance).

You may want to consider the following saying:

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt"

Yes, we are in the "sticks". I am proud to say I am from Tallapoosa, I have all my teeth, married a local man and raise our children here also. My reply to mr. video man is, why are all of you Atlanta area people are moving to this area if it is the "sticks"? We are not seen often on the news in Haralson County, yet the few times we are on we are called names. Maybe you need to look into your backyard before you judge my frontyard.

Well John, Glad to get a response from someone out there. Sometimes you have to shake the tree to get things rolling. With crime rampate here in the county, Meth and the such what to you have to say about the revolving door at the county jail. This county would be a great place to live if the criminals are really put away for some hard time, not bonded out time and time again. there would be two people alive if the bond process was done correctly. The majority of the folks here are great, however there are just a few who think they own the county, city and everyone else. Time for a change. I choose to stay and fight for cleaning up the area, not moving on.

Hey, I may be from the megalopolis of Cedartown, but I proudly consider myself a Hillybilly/Redneck!! Folks cutting down Rednecks are the ones with the problem. I'd rather be a Redneck than a nasal-talking Yankee, any-damn-day!!

I bid adieu from the Hills....

Video Man,
For you to be from Atlanta, your knowledge of this area is great. As for our justice system in this county, the highly published murders- you lay down with dogs you will get fleas. I hate for any family to loose loved ones but that quote tells all. They all knew what they were doing.

The "revolving door" problem is not unique to Haralson County. This is a problem that plaques all the country.

Haralson county is still a great place to live. The only reason I left the area is job related. As far as the time given someone for conviction of a crime, that too is an issue that is not unique to Haralson County. You can not please the victim or their family or the criminal and their family either way you go. The elected officals(Sheriff) do not have the final say so in someone "bonding out" as you put it. If that person is eligible for a bond, then one has to be granted. Law enforcement can approach the prosecutor and or judge and request no bail or a higher bail, but it is ultimately a judicial decision.

I too agree that the whole situation is a joke, I mean it is called the "CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM"!! So IMHO I do not see how electing another Sheriff, DA, etc will in the long run help solve the problem you put forth.

The meth problem is real, no doubt. All we can do is our best to keep our kids safe by being there for them and setting a good example.

God Bless this family. This is really sad news to know a young man was found in a well. Thank goodness he was found tho, and not left there for the unknown...
As far as the police ect, I personally think police is nuttin more than a badge happy rude human being! Someone might need to teach them how to smile why in uniform.
anyways.... Speaking of living in the sticks, We don't have cable here in my area of Carrollton. So what does that make us? Country hicks?
What ever it may be, Im happy to live where I live.
Now lets all pray for this family..please

Haralson County is a great place to live. Our crime rate is not high. Yes we do have crazy moment which I like to refer to as my "job security" but it is not as high as video man has made it out to be. Yes we are out in the sticks, but it is one of the safest places to raise a family. I have lived here all my life.
Don't go degrading the law enforcement and the fire department in this county. These men and ladies put their lives on the line every day and night for the citizens of this county. They are some of greatest people I know and I am proud to call them my co-workers, family, and friends. My Uncle is the fire chief for the county and I work at the 911 center. You can sleep safely knowing that these officers and other public safety workers are on duty. The firemen who were lowered into the well have been through several different classes and training programs to prepare them for situations like this. They do know what they are doing and they would not be put in a situation if their safety was put in jeopardy.
So my advice to anyone who doesn't know these men and women to keep your comments about our little hickville county to yourself...

Can you give a link or website where I can read up on the "Tallapoosa group who back in the 70's tapped the gas line"." My husband worked for a man in Tallapoosa, whom some said was involved in something illegal that had to do with gas. I would really like to no more about this. Thanks!

Just Curious I am not sure if there is any link to information on the crime. I will look into it and try to post something ASAP. I would suggest checking the archives at the Neva Lomason Library in Carrollton Georgia for any article in The Times-Georgian. If I remember correctly the time frame was around 1974-1976,give or take a year. The Atlanta Journal Constitution may be another source for articles. Give me a couple of days and I will get as much info as I can.
