Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

Today is my Grandma Carmela DeLuca's 117th birthday. Of course, she's been long gone, and it's too bad for that.

I highly recommend making your own bacon. Pancetta is easy and creating your own American slab style bacon cure is particularly rewarding.

Deluxe Foods, Corralitos Market and Freedom Meat Lockers will all provide the cut(s) you are looking for.

You can begin the process while your tomato harvest is in the hot water bath :-)

Do you ever double-check the stuff you publish, Donna? Just 3/4 cup of that Kirkland Spiced Pecan cereal has 11 g of sugars, so who cares if it has 7 g of fiber? Very poor choice for a "healthy" cereal, especially when you add a cup of milk, which has 12g of sugars (for a 2k calorie diet, no more than 40g of sugars should be consumed per day). An equivalent amount of the unsweetened Post shredded wheat has 0 g of sugars, and
6g of fiber. That's a much better place to start.

Packaged cereals are such a poor deal all around. Coul have you read sally Fallon's "Nurturing Traditions"?

Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes. There's only two things that money can't buy and that's true love and home grown tomatoes. --Guy Clark, Texas songwriter and singer
