"...if not for the employees there would be no business. Did you not have econ 101 in high school?"
Actually, if not for the employees: new ones would walk through the door the next day. And if not for the employees: the whole place could be run by 3 people like at Aldi. Or, if not for the employees: your job could be eliminated and replaced by a vending machine. THAT's econ 101! |

Judged: 1 1 How many people do you know tht reallly shop AT aLDIS.The place is borderline infested and stinks on top of it. Also, when was the last time you got a gallon of milk or head of lettuce from a vending machine. Aroast might be a tricky one to squeeze out, too. |

The lot and store are full whenever I go there.
The point is that supply and demand are Econ 101; NOT:"...if not for the employees, there would be no business." That comment was just plain wrong. Piggly Wiggly employees are a dime a dozen, i.e. there is no shortage for supply and there are very little special skills needed to work there. They are fortunate to not be replaced by technology. Heck, many many many grocery items ARE (or could be) sold via vending machines, or can be scanned/paid for by yourself; or are otherwise self serve like at Aldi (where I shop frequently for the low prices.) Or the store itself is eliminated with web sites like Market Day and Peapod. Fool yourself into thinking that you are necessary all you like. But Econ 101 will prevail in the end. |

"...but the lack of the human element is something that has turned this country into an all about me nation. Yeah, that sounds pretty stupid to high educated city people who only look at numbers and profit..."
Not stupid. More like, either visionary or philosophical fantasy. If you chose to philosophize about your version of a utopia (where numbers and profit don't matter), then heave at it. Meanwhile, I'll chose to live in and face reality head on; a reality where supply and demand prevails over emotions. OBTW, for the older and the non-drivers I reccomend: peapod.com ; marketday.com ; netgrocer.com ; http://www.amazon.com/grocery-breakfast-foods... ; http://www.groceries-express.com/ ; http://mashable.com/2008/06/05/online-grocery... |
