Kenosha Marine killed in Iraq
Mother talked to her son just two days before

When Marine officers came to Susan Nelson's Wisconsin home Monday night with the news of her son's death, she shut the door on them four times before accepting reality. She had just talked to her son, Cpl. Richard Nelson, Saturday—as they do weekly—and he reassured her that his second deployment to Iraq was God's will.

"He said,'As much as I don't care to be here, I know God has a plan,' " she said. She did not expect to hear about his death two days later.

Cpl. Richard Nelson, 23, of Kenosha died Monday. He was in a combat operation when an improvised explosive device detonated about 4:30 p.m., said Lt. Patrick Evans, a military spokesman.

Nelson died a week before his first wedding anniversary, which is next Monday, said his mother, who lives near Kenosha in Pleasant Prairie. Lance Cpl. Dean D. Opicka, 29, of Waukesha, Wis., also died with Nelson. Both were assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve's 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division.

I posted it because the stories I read here were not of much information. Just trying to help. I am applying so I can post stories. The one paragraph stories are not very complete.

I am terribly sorry you lost your friend, I know how you feel I have lost many of mine of the years. PK made the comment because the site can get sued for copyright violations if it happens to often. There are procedures to posts new stories here on Topix one of which is apply to be an editor. He wasnt disrespecting your loss just pointing out, to a person he knows, the procedure for posting stories here on Topix.

Once again I am sorry for you loss and I hope you dont think I am being rude, it wasnt my intention.

well, first off dousch, I have the pictures and discharge certificate hanging on my front room wall to prove that not only can i make it through boot.I was a member of a special 3rd battalion platoon from WI,and that I have been in Iraq. The pictures also show that I was a drill instructor at MCRD sandiego.
He may have been a good friend of yours. but he was a brother in arms to me.

All this because someone didn't understand how to find the story and they thought they were helping by posting more information. I have been to Iraq 2x as a soldier and 3x contracted - but who cares!
