Not only do we have the highest water bill in the state, but we also pay the highest school taxes in the state of Kentucky. What a joke? One of the smallest schools in the state! I heard the school is setting on millions of dollars in their bank account, but they always want more. Students out of district do not pay a fee, people in raceland are paying for them to go to school here. When are the people of Raceland going to stand up against the crooks at the city and on the school board!

Raceland is a major joke! We need some one running this town who knows what they are doing! I live alone and my water bill is $70 each month I feel sorry for familes who've bought their homes in Raceland.

Personally, can't wait to move! The only reason we bought here was so we could be sure our kids could go to school in a great district. The city "government" (if you can call it that) is the biggest joke I've ever seen! I live about a block from the almighty city building and didn't see a drop of salt all winter. OH WAIT! I forgot! They didn't have money for any this year. Where did all our taxes and municipal fees go? Probably to pay for all the city workers who didn't even read the water meters for at least 2 months. When we asked why our bill was the same every month during the winter and we were being billed for water we hadn't used yet (read your water meter when you get your next bill and compare the gallons used) they said the weather had been too bad to send the "employees" out to read them so they've been calculating!!!! What! Does that mean our bills will be less when they catch up with all the gallons they've been calculating? NO WAY! The lowest bill you can get in Raceland with all the fees and "adjustments" they do is something like $62. What a joke!

It is a major joke! We need to all meet up at the next city meeting! And we need to get those guys out of there come next election. That Salvage guy did a better job than the panty waste we have in there now.
Screw me once my fault

when i moved to raceland i had to pay someone else's water bill before i could have it turned on in my name. What the hell is that about i didnt make that bill and it's not right to make someone else pay for it. I am now in the process of getting the hell out of that crocked town.
stuck here too

We bought a home in the Raceland area so that our children could be "in district" and never have to worry about losing their places at Raceland. But the city does charge too much for EVERYTHING and there are so many "out of district" kids at Raceland it's beginning to not even feel like Raceland anymore..........

As someone who grew up in Raceland, I've always been intriqued by those who think the taxes are so much higher than everyone else. I actually went to the Department of Revenue website and downloaded the tax tables to check them. If some of you would do the same, you would see that Raceland has one of the lowest overall tax rates in Greenup or Boyd county. The only city lower near there is Wurtland but there you pay a seperate tax for fire protection that you don't in Raceland. Worthington and Russell have tax rates that are about 15% higher and they tax more categories than Raceland does. So the next time you think Raceland city hall is rolling in the dough, take a look at the facts, not the hype and hysteria. Rob Perry, Raceland High Class of '75,currently residing in Virginia Beach, Va and I know my taxes are higher here.
thanks

I also had the same conversation with someone living in Flatwoods. When I pulled up the tax table they do pay less for school taxes if in Russell district, but pay 10% more in City taxes. No matter where you live the city/town/municipality has to have revenue. It's just each does it differently.

To "thanks", that was not my intent and I apologize if that is the way it was taken. I merely want people to gather the facts rather than respond to heresay. For those who think the school taxes are high, they are right, but the biggest contributing factor to that is that Raceland and Worthington together form a very small tax base to support a school system and, hence, high tax rates. The one big thing I agree with a lot of people on is that Raceland needs new business so that the tax base expands instead of contracts. That's the way to get tax rates down. I don't vote there obviously, but those who do hopefully will put elected officials in office who can attract business to town. Judging by the postings here, a lot of people there desire the same thing.
