Is there anything that anybody can do to help these people who feel that their last option is to jump? I have personally been affected by this and hate hearing of people who commit suicide here, knowing what their families are going through.

The only thing they could do realistically is to fence it off so as to make it impossibe for anyone to get to the edge to jump. However this will not be done because it detracts from the "aesthetics" and after all it's a tourists attraction and we wouldn't want to deter the tourists from droping their money in the town of Hartford would we?

...then it will be another place where the individual commits suicide. When you are feeling this desperate and hopeless, location is not really an issue.

We hiked through just before and drove through right after that happened this weekend ... and I was on edge the rest of the day thinking about it. I'm sorry you had to be there. We were hoping it had been something else.

It is terribly sad, but we don't know the full circumstances. If the person found they had a terminal illness and they had no insurance, their insurance policy is more than likely null and void, but imagine how much it would have cost for their slow death?
There are inumberable ways for people to end their lives, lots of big drops in public locations and out of the way, pills, weapons all kinds of things. If the person was undergoing a temporary depression or treatable depression then it is a shame that in their mind they felt there was nothing anyone could do to help them and that perhaps no one may have been seeing the signs enough to offer enough hope and help to prevent such a tragedy before it occurred.

Leaven there shoes might be just another sign looking not to be mist. Those type of people needed a real friend just to listen? Seems like they wanted someone to notice that they were there not to forget them. Just my view.

I agreee that if someone has been hit with a tough spot or disease. Don't people know that life does turn around. "should we all just give up"? NO there are always better days ahead.

In September, the body of a man from CT was found in Quechee Gorge - and that's all I ever heard about it. Has anyone heard more?
