They are tearing down so many house, this place is beginning to look like a ghost town. They should give them to someone to fix up and live there free. It is begining to look like Goodlett here.

I am not one to defend the city but if they were to give those houses away then they would instantly become storage units for people.
Quanah is becoming a ghost town because of the politics and the better than thou attitudes.
A vigilant plan is in the makings by a few honest men to incorporate growth as well as equality to our fair city. This plan will only work with your support. When you enter the voting booth then you need to vote for any and all Feltys,Tallants,Nelsons,Tabors ,Sparkmans,Akers,
Ingrams, and Newsoms. All of these names are synonymous with pride, honesty, fairness, and loyalty.
After you have voted then there is only one more thing you can do to ensure great things for our future. That is to remember that perfection takes time so regardless of how many years or decades it takes to achieve greatness you can never ever question their leadership or complain about anything.
Thank you for your support.

What a joke. They are what is wrong here. Are you crazy? We could use some population. I am not voting for any of these people especially Ingram and Akers.

Really ? Give them houses for free? In 6 months they would look just like the trashy houses they live in now. You have a welfare mentality.

If you want the town to prosper you have to work on the economy, no one is letting that happen.....leadership issue!

No no no. We cannot prosper until the courthouse restoration is finished. People will come from miles around to see it and they will get thirsty.
They will stop at allsups to get them a coke, pop,or whatever you call it. A portion of that money will go toward taxes. Those taxes will be what stimulates the economy. DUH.
All this potential for a little less than 1,000,000.00. Can we really afford to bypass such a wonderful oppurtunity?

I hear ya, I know one case is were a person or say a family that has big bucks and could afford that rehab on their own. The two best things to do with money, build your families future and give like no one else.

It's not the one business that should prosper, it should be the 20 along the highway, there is a wealth of revenue there just waiting to be tapped into, revenue equals taxes, that equals prosperity!

The economy in that town has been the same for many years, it will not change till there is real leadership, most don't know that because they have never been taught it or tried to learn it....books are great!

I understand your concerns but prosperity has passed us up. Soon the people here will realize they have past the point of no return. The amount of water leaks in the past two weeks is proof enough of that.I wonder how many times taxes has paid enough(spent wisely)to replace those water lines.A few more leaks and Quanah will be trying to patch patches.Cant be done.

Today I stopped at a tire shop in downtown Quanah (102 E 11th St). I paid twice the going rate of parts and labor there. Tire change on trailer: 45 usd unmount and 45 to remount, a total 90 for a 35-40 dollar job!
Replace an air valve under the trailer: 96 usd for a 15-20 min job! They tried to charge me 633 usd for a steer tire whereas 2 weeks ago in Houston a new tire like that cost me 300 including labor!
Total paid: 480 for a valve and a used tire ($100) installed ...
Is this how they can grow business in Quanah, TX ??!

What a load of crap. Nobody cares about that courthouse. People don't want to pay more taxes. We need a factory or something to bring jobs.

Reading the posts in here brings two things to light:

1. local businesses (not all but many), try to capitalize by taking advantage of their customer base knowing that there is not competition to restrict them; and
2. people are not happy with the state Quanah has fallen into.

Guess what? It is entirely our own fault. We (the citizens, and I myself am guilty), don't regularly attend the meetings (city council, commissioner, school board, hospital board), and we don't exercise our right to vote. We allow the same individuals to be elected year after year, knowing the outcome, due to sheer apathy and belief that we cannot change things.

Well, we CAN change things - but it is entirely up to us to do so. If the city and county won't clean things up, we can. If the city and county won't look for grants for needed growth and repair, we can. If we don't like what is going on - let them know by voting them out.

This is OUR city, not theirs.

And I just noticed: the air valve they installed made no difference, I have the air leaking the same as before ... They got $480, I got a used tire - will I ever stop in Quanah again? No way! And I feel sorry for all who need to live there ...

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Virgo

You have energy to burn today and it needs positive outlets, otherwise you'll be rather ratty and impatient. You want to work on activities that will show you in a good light, and you'll be annoyed if anyone objects to what you're doing or points out where you're going wrong. If you've been nursing a secret passion for someone, the frustration will really get to you.
