Now we know that Dager "votes on Paul's cue!"

Kudos for Lauren Quintrelo for reinforcing what most people believe: that academics only part of the overall picture; art and music are needed just as much as the "Three R's"

Yeah, music and art skills get you real far in todays world. Those are usually the poor who are renting apartments until they are well into their 30s. Get real, although they are nice to have, they are not a necessity.

I am a teacher, though not in QCSD. I live in this district and commute an hour to work because it is a great one that offers a well-rounded education and I want my children to attend some day.

To say that music and art skills result in being poor and renting apartments is absurd and closed-minded. Skills developed in music and art (and you can research the studies) reach FAR beyond the ability to play an instrument or paint a picture. The creativity in thinking and the cooperative teamwork skills that our students gain in the involvement of these activities leads to success in any field and is valued by colleges, universities, and employers in all areas.

It sickens me that some people would prefer to produce reading, writing robots that haven't been trained to think creatively or problem solve. Is that the kind of future that you want for this area? If it is, then we are going nowhere fast...

Boo to the Board for axing key items like music art and interactive whiteboards. Our children MUST have the best education possible, at any cost. How else will they compete in tomorrow's economy?

My husband and I earn a very good living, and we feel it is a privelege to pay our school taxes. Our children's education must not suffer. Well rounded classes produce well rounded results. We must use the public schools because we can not personally afford to send our children to Swain, Moravian Academy, etc. Our income goes for utilities, food, clothing, services and now gas is $100 to fill our SUV!! The seniors in our community have benefited from the schools, now they must also contribute to that ongoing fine institution of learning. Let's hope QCSD fights for the money they need to perform the best.

If you are a teacher, what are you doing on a message board at 9AM on a Friday morning? You should be at school.

Hire the new teachers, no cutting programs, add programs, repair the schools, invest in the future. Get rid of the three board members voting against improving our District. It seems that only one senior citizen has trouble making ends meet....

There are far more of us taxpayers in Quakertown who don't have children in the schools than those who do, and someone needs to speak for us too. Educate the children, give them good programs, but don't just spend, spend, spend for everyone who shows up. Thanks very much to the board members who at least tried to do more with less, knowing that they were in the minority, and that cowardly anonymous bloggers would attack them (and probably their families and friends too).

Talk about lack of knowledge and making assumptions. Here is a repost....

In today's world, colleges are looking for more and more extra curicular activities along with academics and with money being such an issue for families, many students are hoping on scholarships from music, sports, and academics.

Try doing some research on the subject. If you want better academics then leave the arts alone. I could post 100 more sites in support of the arts and assisting in higher education not only for the traditional student but also the special needs!

Well we don't make so much money and our taxes now exceed our mortgage.
What's wrong with all you people??
These kids will do fine without Extensive Band/Music & Art. Not many make a real world living from music or art.
Culture is great but can also be obtained and cultivated outside school.
You can't have everything in this world.
Americans are spoiled brats who expect the system to provide everything and refuse to live within a budget. It's pathetic..Grow-up.

Many years ago I read a book titled “The First Five Years”. This book followed “start up” new businesses for five years. After the five years the writer explained why businesses succeeded and why others failed. Maybe we should following graduates for five years and see what class in high school was necessary and which a waste of time. “Waste of the Childs time” and “Waste of Taxpayer Money”.

Read the article, dimwit! To reinforce Lauren's position, when you go to college, you are expected to take some arts courses to broaden your academic experience.

Obviously, you went to automoton school!

if you people really want lower property taxes, you have to realize that true relief can only come from the state. As your costs are increasing so are the school districts costs therefore taxes will continue to increase. You cant get through this problem locally, it is a statewide issue. The best solution is a sales tax of 6.5%. So go to the school board meeting and ontinue to complain and continue to see board members get people's hopes up by saying they are going to cut taxes when in reality, they can't.
