Kids Asking Questions

I personally do not appreciate what I and my kids saw at the Applebees in Quakertown! Guess you can say, TRANSVESTITE "Hostess". When I sat down with my family, my kids were asking all types of questions on why that "girl" talked like a "boy", plus other things. My parents even joined us and could not believe it. What is Applebees trying to pull here? Are they trying to make people talk so they go SEE the new "Hostess" and spark business? And I thought this was a family restaurant! Bunch of BS now!

Well, now that we ALL know how intolerant you are let's get down to business. Do you know what a transvestite is ?? Do you think perhaps the person maybe has a disease of a gender disorder that you and I know nothing about. Is it okay for 'that' person to make a living or is that just for your blonde blue eyed family and extended genomes. How long did you stare. Starng at people is a good form of family fun...teaches the kiddies all kinds of positive character traits. What did you tell your kids when asked all 'kinds' of questions. Was the service bad, was she nasty to you. How was the food and family comraderie, seems you turned a family meal into a sideshow. EVERYONE has a right to a job, right down to those little cute gay bartenders and the flaming chef who probably cooked your food, now run off to your gay hairdresser and see if he/she can educate you. Isn't it funny, I knew you came from this area, the intolerant belt.

"I can't tell if that is a boy or a girl. If it is a boy dressed in girls clothing and make-up, that is called a transgendered person or a transvestite. This person either feels more comfortable wearing girls' clothes or believes that they should have been born a girl. We can pray for them that God helps them find peace in their life because there are alot of narrow-minded people in this world who will defy Christ's teachings and judge them or treat them in a very un-Christian way. We are not those kind of people. We will respect and treat all people with kindness. We will treat others how we want to be treated."

Haywood Javote wrote: Interesting that this topic should pop up now. My wife and I just returned from Applebees about 30 minutes ago, having spent a gift card from Christmas. We both noticed that there was a boy that looked like a girl hosting. I will admit we found he/she a bit amusing. Whether we should have or not is another story. We were not offended by this individual at all. In fact, he/she seemed to be the only one on the ball... seated us quickly and professionally and held the door for us when we left, bidding us a good night. Quite honestly, the service otherwise sucked. This individual was not acting strangely or inappropriately. I agree, don't be so narrow minded! There were no giant hoop earrings, no string of pearls, no feather boa, no skirt, no crazy lipstick... just a person doing their job, and well at that. Hey, what the matter with giant hoop earrings, strings of pearls, feather boas, skirts and crazy lipsticks? When I'm out at the clubs that spells AVAILABLE! Or a guy dressed like a chick...the identifying part must come early in the night because it seems harder to tell as the night goes on which could lead to the occasional awkward situation.

I honestly feel sorry for your children. You could have explained quite simply enough that, that is just they way that oerson looks, no different then the person who is missing a leg, or a burn patient whos skin is permanantly scarred. How dare you react as if this PERSON has an infectious disease and just coughed on your food! My daughter and MANY of friends frequent Applebees and have no issues at all. If this has upset you, how will you react when they are in school and come home to inform you of the gay and cross dressing kids they go to school with?? Get a grip and teach your children tolerance! Oh by the way, chances are that when your out in public someone is pointing and laughing at YOU or someone in your family. WHY? Because someone else is not tolerant of you for possibly being fat or ugly, or simply because they don't like the way YOU look or dress. Didn't your parents teach you not to throw stones in glass houses?

Oh, no! Someone call the police! That person should be arrested for wearing that blouse with those slacks!
(BTW - have you visited the Qmart lately? Interesting dress there also.)

While I do not have a problem with these people and would not not go to Applebees I can see the posters point.( Not that I agree with it) I for one would not like to explain to my 5 year old what transgender was. Most children however do not notice that people are a little different. It is the adults who draw attention to it. I probably will give a short answer and change the subject like nothing was unusual the next time we go. I would preach tolerance if it was a race or physical issue but transgender is a realm that preschoolers don't need to talk about. People like this exsist and they should have the right to have any job they do well and enjoy.Focusing on it was a bad idea especially if it was negative .

I agree with the original post that Applebees is a family restaurant. In turn, why have someone work there who has a gender issue? I can see their point as it now is not a family oriented eating establishment. If a family wants to go out and have a meal together, why inflict questions from kids when all the family wanted to do was just grab a bite to eat (aka family time). They did not want to feel uncomfortable as I sense nor have to explain to the kids why the girl looks and talks like a boy, etc. I can understand their point totally and I personally would also have an issue with that. If I was in San Francisco I would expect it! To all Applebees Customers: Tuesday night is no longer kids nite but Tranny Nite!

I can understand that we have to have tolerance for those who are different in whatever way, but why must that individual call attention to himself by being the hostess and putting himself at the center of attention? I have been there and corrected my daughter when she giggled at this person. It's enough to have to explain the whole "gay" thing, but transvestite is a little over the top and not something that I wanted to start a discussion that evening about either! Geez......we were just trying to have a fun mother/daughter dinner.

...truly does escape some people. Being tolerant of someone or something outside of your comfort zone does not mean that you pigeon hole that person or situation into something that is within your comfort zone. You have read on here that the person was well matched for the job in terms of courtesy and efficiency. It is un-Christian-like and against the law to discriminate against a transgendered person applying for a job. I, quite frankly, embrace getting my children comfortable with as many types of situations as possible as long as it is not a threat to their well-being. I don't consider observing a person doing their job well a threat to my children's well-being. I am proud to have a family restaurant in my area that will hire people based upon their strengths and I guarantee you that if we went there my children would not ask questions because they have been exposed to strengths in all types of people.

Oh so if Coyotes had trannies dancing on the stage that would be ok. Man is Quakertown F'd up! An the "laws" say it's not to hold discretion on sexuality to hire. The "laws" also say it's ok for Coyotes to operate as they are so moot point.

What the hell is wrong with you? I have to say "hey man" what side of the coin you on already? Are you a bung captain or what? Calling that person narrow would say to me that you like trannies compared to guys that like looking at girls I mean "real" girls.

It is unfair to subject myself and my children to this when all I'm trying to do is have a nice meal with my family. When a man pretends to a woman and a bad looking woman at that...that @#$% is funny. I don't want to laugh at the person, but find it very hard when my kids are asking why this guy is dressed like a women. I don't think Applebee's had a choice on whether the could or could not hire this person...their hands are tied. But that doesn't mean I need to be welcomed into the resturuant by them either. The shame was that the person is actually working their tail off and is doing everything right to keep their job.
