Why does the local Sierra Club completely ignore the real and decades long environmental catastrophe in South County...the agribusiness/Farm Bureau driven overdraft and massive yearly water resource loss/expropriation of our water supply by saltwater intrusion?

Perhaps the eco-fascists at the Sierra Club could envision paying for this utopia with their own money and leave the taxpayer's out of it.

Ironically, the Sierra Club vision will be more likely to be funded by the feds, given it
s closer approximation to the ACoE plan than to the County plan. Perhaps your insults should be aimed at the feds? Isn't it curious how the overdraft of the gw basin is driven by the Farm Bureau and the levee plan is also driven by the Farm Bureau? Their levee plan also ensures that recharge areas won't...When is our policy going to be dictated by a broader diversity of stakeholders than this antiquated good old boys network?

Didn't someone have these same "visions' about the San Lorenzo River levy at one time?

The fertile soils of the Pajaro Valley were created by centuries of deposition of material during yearly flooding. Trying to channelize the river takes away this natural process. This is also the same for groundwater recharge.

Maybe Obama's Leftist Socialist Administration will re-distribute more money to this goofy enviro-idealist cause! Sam Farr is always good for some well deserved taxpayer funded PORK flowing into his district to ensure the Libs continue to re-elect his sorry catering behind! Just like his daddy was!

The city of Austin, Texas, has a great set of trails on both sides of the river running through it. Thousands of people walk, run, and bike these trails every day. The Riverwalk is a huge asset to the people of Austin, and also to people who visit Austin.

The San Lorenzo and Pajaro Rivers could both have the same kind of thing, and they would be great resources for the people of Santa Cruz County. The paths along the San Lorenzo are a good start, but it could be improved a lot.

Nice idea but considering the areas in question, I wouldn't feel safe in either with or with out a river walk. Spend the money on making those areas safe first. And please do not say that it would make it safer.

There is nothing new about all this. Fresno, Sacramento, Redding, have all done or are doing this. There are river parkways all over the nation and world. Not here though! We have berries! are'nt we fortunate?
