"Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence has invited Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., to engage in a discussion about the issue of health care reform following the legislator's sharp criticism about the U.S. Catholic bishops' role in the debate.

"Bishop Tobin told Kennedy in an Oct. 27 letter that, as Congress "nears agreement on a final bill, I believe it is important that you are provided with specific facts about the Catholic Church's position on this critical issue."

"As of early afternoon Oct. 28, the congressman had not responded to the bishop's invitation."

Don't look for Kennedy's acceptance anytime soon. He knows he's ill-equipped to discuss anything about real Catholicism, whose ethic he conspicuously avoids practicing.

And yes, Kennedy has the right to do whatever kind of politicking he wants to do. He just doesn't have the right to call himself a Catholic when his public life is the antithesis of church teaching.

“I'm more than a womb, thanks.”

Yes, he can't call himself "Catholic" if he isn't raping someone. Only "real" catholics oppose women's rights and support blatant discrimination against homosexuals.

I don't discriminate against people for how they are born but I do discriminate against d*ckheads who have chosen a religion to follow that reflects their own hatred.

Ah yes, the genteel, refined pro-abort "rebuttal," redolent with ad hominem.

If the Church is that sinister, it would certainly be inimical to any office holder's political fortunes. Why would Kennedy (or any liberal politician) make such a laughably hypocritical pretense of being an adherent of a movement that's a political millstone? You'd think he'd immediately admit he's a poseur, renounce the Church, and join the little coven of rabid Catholic haters on Topix.

Don't like it? Try Afghanistan, where there is a burqa and complete submission, for every women.
Exactly. The church of cruelty and oppression really should accept the fact that it doesn't have nearly the influence it BELIEVES it does. Not in the U.S. anyway.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Capricorn

Someone is being very pedantic and picky, and they'll soon drive you round the bend with frustration. They're splitting hairs about all sorts of petty problems, but unfortunately you won't be immune from this yourself. You might get caught up in needless details that don't really matter, or take everything that happens very personally. Try to be more objective.
