The original question on this forum was what do other people think of our town. I live in Princeton and I think Providence is fine. I have daughters who played softball for several years in both league and high school level. Every time we went to Providence the people I met were very nice and friendly. I see the town is slowly dying economically. That seems to be happening everywhere. Look at Dawson Springs. I think what happens to these small towns is their local businesses can not be supported by their own community because people will drive a few miles to save a little money at a Wal-Mart. I am glad we have a Wal-mart but it has put a hurt on several of our small businesses down town. It is a blessing and a curse at the same time. You save money but I feel guilty sometimes not supporting our locally owned businesses. I try to switch up each week by buying groceries at Food Giant and Hancock's and only buy a few grocery items at Wal-Mart when I'm there. But what has helped our down town is to have a mayor who has done every thing right to help get our down town revitalized. She did her homework and got some state funding for the projects. The money is there you just have to know where to apply and ask for it. As far as gossip goes, every small town has a problem with that. I don't listen to gossip because I know there is always two sides to every story. If everyone would try to come together as a community and help each other out when needed, God will bless this and other small towns. Keep your chin up and love one another instead of trying to tear each other down. Talk to your city officials and ask them about revitalizing your down town and also have them contact our Mayor Cherry for advice. I am glad I live in a small community and would not live in a big city. I like the fact that that any where I go I see a friendly face I know. I know the majority of the people living here because I have volunteered at school, been a little league coach, Sunday School teacher and local supporter of our youth programs. Get involved any way you can and pull this great little community together so you can be proud to call Providence your home. Good luck and God bless you all.

We don't need a WAL-MART here; because it would be a huge fight, betcha. What we need is a liquor store>not a private club, but a liquor store and a new factory......lol.....brewery? That's fuuuunnnnyyy!!!!!#1.

Please wait...
I have lived in Providence all my life. I left for college and chose to come back and raise my family here because I love this town and the people who live here. What I will never understand is why people who hate it here continue to stay. Surely public housing isn't that much of a draw? Other towns have projects that I am sure they would be much happier in, since apparently Providence is so bad. So I say, if you live here and don't pay property taxes, then you don't really get to complain. Just move and leave the town to those of us who are paying to keep it running and paying to educate the children of the county. And I am very happy with my life here, with my family, friends, and job.

Not to mention all the drugs and blacks seeking whites and vica-versa. A town that should not be allowed to exist. I know there are some good folks there but talk about inbread rednecks, I would be ashamed to live there...embarrassed to be seen there when I am forced to go in that direction.

Do you mean that Providence is a bunch of ignorant inbreds? Are you even familiar with Providence or just jabbering away on the computer? I am familiar with Providence I am sorry to say but I agree with the previous post. A bunch of redneck inbread's. Good people there yes. Why they remain there I don't know.
