Well wcoach, thought we'd better start our own thread instead of over-running everyone else's. I'm still pondering over this bigfoot discussion we'd been having, that is you, me, Cooper, me too, Autie, and hereforgood. I personally don't believe it exists, but evidently Cooper swears he heard it down where he fishes. I still think it's a big cat. What's your honest take on it? By the way, be kind to Cooper, he's sulking 'cause hereforgood won't talk to him.

Hi Observer! How have you been? I didn't know
you'd come over here. |
I've been hoppin in and out all along. You've given me quite a few chuckles lately, looked like you might get over run there for a short while, but I see that you blasted the road clear, lol. I've been kickin back this summer, not doing too much in the way of vacation. Did raise some good tomatoes and peppers. Nothing like home grown. How's the chickens doing? |
I got tired of talking to 'angel or a ghost'. That's a severe Yankee hater. I can usually lob 'em back pretty good, huh? Some of the people on here are pretty good for a gut laugh. You got a big garden? I managed to pick a lot of wild blackberries up and down my road and also on my land. I gave some away to a friend who made jelly out of them. She gave a few jars to us, and I saved enough for myself and I made a couple of pies. YUM! I had picked 7 gallons. In June I went back to Chicago for a week to visit an old friend. I took the Mountain Home Charter bus that goes to Willowbrook Illinois. We had a blast. Went to the Shedd Aquarium, and saw The House On The Rock in Wisconsin. That was the first time for both of us. Ate some good Chicago food. Us old gals (she's 56 and I'm 54) can still swing it! The chickens didn't lay much in July and August, but now I'm getting 2 or 3 a day. Not too bad. The poor girls (8 hens) are between 6 and 8 years old. |

No garden, raised box planter hubby made for the tomatoes, a couple of pepper plants in big planters. Strawberry plants in planters too, which we actually got some fruit on, while trying to keep the birds from eating the blooms! I'm getting one of those strawberry pyramids with the cold frame and bird netting for next year.
I was a teenager the last time I went blackberry picking on the farm I grew up on. Was so loaded with chiggers I was almost sick! Never did it again, lol. We had planned to take a week's vacation and go somewhere this summer, but stuff kept happening and we never made it. I have several states I'd like to see, just a matter of planning and saving. Looks like we're about the same age. I'll be 55 soon. Man, time sure is going faster nowadays than it ever did when I was young, go figure! Just got home not long ago, better get up and get some work done around here, then I'm out to take a walk about town later. |
Nothing like homegrown tomatoes! I've never tried growing strawberries (even though I just love them). I used to go with my dad when I was a kid and we picked them from a 'pick 'em yourself' farm. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh the good ole days! Which states do you want to visit? I was born in Illinois, been to Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Oklahoma, Florida, Tennessee (driving through), lived in Texas for 25 years, now I'm in Arkansas. Yup, time seems to be going a hundred miles an hour! |
LOL, every state the travel channel does a story on, I write down the info on the town, hotels, sights to see, and then wind up losing the paper! I have been east up to Maine, RI, Mass., and around cause hubby's family lives there. Been to Wisc. last year at a resort in no man's land there....beautiful! We took several short road trips through Tenn and Ky. I want to check out Ark. some day, and believe it or not, there's plenty in Mo I still want to see. Then I think I might want to see Taos, New Mexico, and start milling around Az and a little bit of Tx. There's just so many places, it's hard to choose. I also made it to San Francisco back in the hippie years, lol, I had a cousin lived out there at that time. I have to start making up my mind or I'll never get out of town here! We're not much for tourist traps, like Branson and stuff like that. I want to see the landscape of the states, and some of the smaller towns and such. Hubby tried for years to get me to go to NY City....NO WAY, not my bag. I'd be a nervous wreck and wanting to get out the whole time I would be there, it's not what I'm looking for. Well, I have jabbered enough tonight, will talk to you later, have a good evening. |

One more thing, have you got a clue as to why a location doesn't show up under my post name any more? I noticed it a bit ago, and now I see your last post doesn't show one either.

You're right, so much to see! I'd never go to NY either. Never been there. Don't want to. I'm partial to Chicago, of course. Was raised in that area. I've been to a lot of places in Texas. Lived there for 31 years. Been to Big Bend once. Just beautiful! And I loved going to the coast. I'd like to go to Maine. I'll bet it's gorgeous in the fall. But I think my travels might now drop to the immediate area. But that's okay. Arkansas is beautiful. We planned on coming up here about 6 years ago. Bought the land in 2002, kept coming up here to clear it, put the septic and well in, then the house. It was very hectic and aggravating, but I think it was worth it. Had to get out of Texas. |
I have no idea. It's strange........ |
What a beautiful weekend this has been! Saturday we did our fall yard work, nothing left there but leaf raking when that time comes. Today I spent a few hours in the state park walking trails, probably did about six miles worth, it was gorgeous in those woods. I think this week the yucky weather will be moving into our area, will have to watch the weather tonight. I have a little bit more fall house cleaning to do, so I will get that done this week. So what's been going on in your neck of the woods this past week? |
I cleaned house this weekend. I was getting kind of lazy. Actually, we live in a basement (first floor) of our house. It has cement walls. We were never able to complete the house. Ran out of money. But it is pretty cozy now. We stashed a lot of stuff on the 2nd floor. I call that the attic. And we've been gradully going through things and sorting it all out. My husband is a pack rat and most of the stuff is his, and let's say, he's reluctant to part with too much of it. Where did you go walking? Buffalo Point? I've been there walking too, on one of my visits, haven't done it since I've been here though. It's beautiful there. We had some rain here yesterday. We now have some additions to our deer family. We have 5 Mule deer that started coming to our meadow about 2 months ago. I noticed they looked different from the regular deer and searched the internet and by god, they're Mule deer! They have huge ears. And they are darker. I don't know if they're that common in Arkansas. We also have a bear in the area! I went outside about 2 months ago while talking to my husband on the phone and THERE HE WAS in the meadow. I said 'oh my god, it'a a BEAR!' He said 'get back in the house'. I said 'gotta get my camera'. And I got a video of him. I was scared to death, but I had to get some proof! He was pretty big, maybe 250 pounds, probably just a young one though. He seemed scared of ME too! We're going to go to Lead Hill today to have lunch and then drop some things off at a Thrift shop there. So catch ya later! |

I don't think the bears have made it this far up yet, but we do have big cats that move through the area. We use to hear them when I was a kid, and finally saw one right around our barn one year. It was right after dusk, and we were still running around playing (summertime) when we heard something at the barn. Just as we got to the barn lot gate it came around the side of the barn and stopped dead in it's tracks staring at us. My stupid sister screamed and it ran down through the field into the woods. That was years ago now, so I don't know if they move through the area any more or not. So much rural area has been taken away since then. Well, I hear hubby pounding away at something upstairs like he's chasing a critter with his shoe, so better go see what he's doing and get some supper going. TTYL |

Oh, and to answer your question, I go to Cuivre River state park to hike, grew up in there, it's only about three miles away. Pretty convenient being so close. I sure do want to explore southern Mo from east to west too, becasue I've found some beautiful places on websites and google earth pics that people have posted. |
I'll bet that park is gorgeous! The Ozarks are beautiful aren't they? I haven't done much exploring since we've been here. We're planning on going to Eureka Springs next spring when a friend comes to visit. I've never been there. |
OMG! Mountain lions? Or panthers, or whatever they're called here. Now I think I'd be more afraid of THEM than bears! |

O Fallon, MO |
Howdy! Had a busy weekend trying to get fall cleaning done and stuff like that. Nothing too interesting to report from here, just kind of mello, enjoying these beautiful days we've been having, I'm sure I'll wake up one morning and winter will be upon us, yuk. Trying to get some walnuts picked up, but haven't had much time to do that, maybe today or tomorrow. Thought I'd drop by for a second while I had the chance. See ya around! |
Man, I've been busy all week. Seems like everything hit at once. When you mentioned walnuts it reminded me of my grandma's house in Illinois. I'd pick them for her. She lived to be over a 105. It'll take me awhile to get used to SNOW! Didn't have any snow to speak of in Austin. Have you checked out the Mountain Home forum? Without me, it's DEAD! LOL! |
O Fallon, MO |
Hey, my Grandma lived to be 105 also! Don't think I'll make it that far, lol. I guess I'll go to the park tomorrow and drink my coffee and take a walk. Then I think I might make a pot of soup since the weather turned cool. Well, gotta get going on some work around here. Talk to ya later! |
Soup sounds yummy......I made some chili this weekend. Have you been in Missouri all your life? |
