No shortage of young naive suckers that fall for these snake oil sales pitches. Americans are financially illiterate and this is just one way that large corporations profit from their ignorance. Wise up kiddies!

When you couple the governments mandated free credit reporting with the new credit freeze program, then there's less need for people to pay a monthly fee to these credit monitoring companies. Another heavy advertiser is "Lifelock". For a fee, they do a number of things that the consumer can do for free, freeze their credit report, opt out of receiving credit card offers, get off mailing lists, etc.
It would be beneficial to the consumer if Congress would mandate that the 3 major credit reporting companies include in the credit report whether or not the individual has opted out of receiving credit card offers and whether or not the individual has frozen their credit report. A central clearing house for these vital aspects of protecting ones credit would be very beneficial.

I get a lot of junk mail that act like the goverment is trying to contact you. When I see the postage is paid by a non-profit organization, get it!-donation, you can guess where I file it!

I almost fell for this trap too. I got the annualcreditreport and freecreditreport websites mixed up too. I signed up at freecreditreport but fortunately realized the fees they would charge me for something i could get for free. I then canceled my subscription before they could ever charge me. But I can see how some people would let the charges go on for months without cancelling. It seems like a small amount per month but the charges add up over time.

You all been taken by this company, here one thing I can say you want good credit you have to pay in cash, they wont refuse what you drop on the table, it work for me I have a very bad credit for 20 years now, so bad that the bank wont even let me barrow a nickle with 100% interest, now you know where I coming from, but since then I got no problem buying thing like cars or a home, this are not finance to any bank it all paid in cash, and to get here is you work your ash just work, dont even take your friends to movies and party just keep money to your self cause when you need it it is there and your friends wont let you money believe me I am one of that person, and when you get bad credit even the crock could not get your identity, only goin be hard for him getting info, I never check my credit what so ever but I know its is sucks but not for me, but for the scummer is.
