It sure beats Obama's message of don't get a real job and don't make money. That's essentially what he told a bunch of college kids. Yeah, Obama, then why spend 100,000 for an education? And not to point out the obvious, but you live in a 1.6 million dollar home. And your pastor lives in a multi-million dollar home.

And you have given a pittance to charity. In fact, your giving is ghastly and I wouldn't care except for the fact that you are constantly preaching the opposite message to young malleable people.

Whose preaching? Colbert's? I don't understand, but maybe it's because I'm so malleable.

i was referring to michelle and obama's incessant preaching

obama spoke to weselyan recently and gave this stupid speech about not pursuing money-making careers

michelle tells poor people who don't have a choice the same message

they are miserable rotten people

that's my point

i would prefer colbert as president

though as i get older, i do find the constant mocking dull

how about some serious commentary

but he and jonathan stewart gear themselves for 20 year olds who depend on mommy and daddy

"That's essentially what he told a bunch of college kids." No he didn't. I'm not an Obama supporter, but that's not what he "essentially" said. Just some more right-wing BS from the likes of Hannity and Ingraham.

Who? I don't watch Hannity. Anyone who says anything negative about Obama is either a right-winger or a racist. Whatever.

In his speech, he uses the term "collective." The man wants a socialist utopia, you know like the utopia everyone is fleeing from in Cuba.

LAME! Seriously, Colbert's taken his 15 minutes & severely over-stayed it. Same old, tiring, bit. We get it - you're not funny - now go away.

Are you guys really arguing over an article about a comedian instead of discussing the political state of the country, state, city, etc? Good, keep going. It's what Colbert would want.

I think its hilarious the Class President of Princeton is smart enough to go to school at princeton but too dumb to know Colbert is no Right Winger. Libertarian YES. Liberal YES.

Glad to see we have capable people to lead us down the road. Tom Haine is an IDIOT! or at least his folks are so rich he got in due to an endowment donation. Just like the current U.S. presidential fraud.

My God, can't we discuss something else other than politics? Are you always on? Do you always talk politics, even at work and at parties? Just because we're talking about some comedian who's funny half of the time (his guest interviews are the worst) doesn't mean we don't care about the state of the country.

Wow - all you got from that speech was to not choose money-making careers? I think you were already against Obama and just saw what you wanted in the speech. Encouraging service to the country isn't the same as saying people should make money.

Lighten up, people!
Everybody has the people and entertainers who make them laugh out loud and for many of us, that's Colbert! Colbert for president still!!!
And can we quit making every single story on the Tribune Web site about politics? Holy cow, if you don't have anything else to talk about - and to criticize others about, maybe you should take a trip to the library and check out a good book. Or volunteer or something. Go for a nice walk.

Goofy, you picked a good name for yourself. You read a story about Stephen Colbert, and somehow twist it into an excuse to display your bitter hatred of Obama. How pathetic.

Here's what Obama actually said:

"Each of you will have the chance to make your own discovery in the years to come. And I say 'chance' because you won't have to take it. There's no community service requirement in the real world; no one forcing you to care. You can take your diploma, walk off this stage, and chase only after the big house and the nice suits and all the other things that our money culture says you should by. You can choose to narrow your concerns and live your life in a way that tries to keep your story separate from America's.

"But I hope you don't. Not because you have an obligation to those who are less fortunate, though you do have that obligation. Not because you have a debt to all those who helped you get here, though you do have that debt.

"It's because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. Because thinking only about yourself, fulfilling your immediate wants and needs, betrays a poverty of ambition. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential and discover the role you'll play in writing the next great chapter in America's story."

Oh, my, what an awful thing to suggest - help other people. I'm sure that's right out of Karl Marx's book.

Oh no, sorry, wrong guy - it's right out of Jesus Christ's book.
