My name is Gary Horneck. I am a disabled, active auto racer, in Huntsville. I race in an event called Autocross, which is run in large parking lots with courses designated by traffic cones. I have a program I am developing to give our physically challenged veterans,(specifically those with limited physical function needing to drive with special hand controlled devices), a chance to race and compete in our local Autocross series. For me, finding a type of motorsports activity I could still participate in, was a life changing experience. I want to share this experience with those who are confined to wheelchairs, and not able to drive without hand controls.
I have modified a Racing Kart with hand controls and improvements to make it suitable for Autocross. Our Autocross (aka Solo) program has a class for Racing Karts, and two wounded warrior drivers would share each Kart for the days event. Our racing season starts in 3 weeks and runs all the way till December. We have races every 3-4 weeks, so this is not a one-time opportunity for the drivers.
If you are a car enthusiast veteran, or know of one, who requires hand controls to drive, please contact me - Facebook - Racing Heroes
