I find it ridiculous that our tax payer money is going to pay for Mr. Kings attorney!!! He's the one that shot of his mouth, maybe he should just pay the fine and shut up for once in his life!!

I expect more from our elected official, and conducting themselves in a professional manner is a standard they should all abide by.
When it comes time for the re-election of our community leaders, I for one, will be casting my vote for change.
Our tax dollor should not be used for those who can not control thier emotions or tongue.
Mr. King should pay the fine, appologize and save the community from any "future headlines". It is called "accountability".

The community has made headline news across the state ant into other states.
All at the hands of appointed and elected officials.
Enought is enought, I have had enought.
We can not continue down a path of destruction. Thier is a total lack of professionalizm by those that are held to a higher standart.
I want this community to make news that represents us well, not that protrays us as hillbilly heaven.
I too will vote for change in the coming elections, and at this point I really do not care who runs, I will just vote those who are there out!!!!!!!!!!
It could not be any worse than what we have represnting us now.
Agree, that Mr. King should make a public "I'm sorry for my actions and move on".
This is not a tax payer issue, but rather one of uncontroled emotions.
You should all engage you brain before opening your mouth.
If it has slipped your memory the citizens elected you and the citizens can keep you from being re-elected.

i THINK it was the county to pay for King's attorney-if that is so--then why don't we pay for Danielson's also--he is a county employee isn't he? works for the sheriff's office(?) they are county.
King has been around too long, is too controlling, too mean. i agree, i will be one to vote him out also!

As to the issue of the county paying for Mr. King's attorney fees, he is an elected official. The incident occurred inside the courthouse where Mr. King works, regardless of whether or not he was working at the time. The topic did involve county business. Something related to insurance I believe.
The point is that our top elected officials must by law be insured in this way. Now if he and Danielson had an argument on Adams street about the price of tea in China; well then the county would not be paying for his attorney fees.
Mr. Danielson does not need an attorney; unless of course he has been charged with disorderly conduct as well. When there is a crime a PROSECUTOR (like a county attorney, city attorney, or the someone from the attorney general's office) is the lawyer for the state, county, or city.
And as for Mr. Danielson, isn't he a convicted felon? If that is true why on earth is he in charge of our county jail? That fact, if it is a fact, would also contribute toour image as a hillbilly heaven.
Perhaps I do not have my facts straight, but wasn't the argument over attending an insurance meeting where Mr. Danielson proposed to report that Mr. King was not attending the YMCA after the health insurance company bought him a membership? My question is, how does Mr. Danielson know these things. I understand his wife works there. Maybe somebody should look into that!
Please understand, I am not defending Mr. King. While I have never had a negative experience with him, I have heard that others have. I do not condone abusive behavior. But, there may be more than meets the eye here.
Someone told me that the county board has had discussion about closing the jail and housing prisoners elsewhere rather than address the space and structural needs of the current jail. Again this is rumour. You connect the dots.

Well aside from the fact that they worked for the city, not the county, there are a few other factors.

For example, they were both fired for inappropriate conduct - lying. They changed their stories quite a few times during taped interviews istead of telling the truth - or at least one consistant story. That is what they were fired for. It did not matter what the truth was. They lied.

Secondly, the sexual assault did not happen inside the law enforcement center. Mr. King's alleged crime happened within the place that he works.

And lastly, Christensen and Sickles committed a felony. A forcible felony. Mr. King's crime is basically an ordinace violation I think - maybe a simple misdemeanor. Not in the same ball park.

And there are probably more reasons. I'm not an attorney.

But I agree with the person who said that it would be nice to have Creston known for some good and positive things instead of all this misconduct, crime and unsavory pasts of the powers that be.

I just want to remind you though. The other county board members did not have anything to do with this. Voting to eliminate everyone is stupid. Because they do not all deserve that and then you have people who are absolutely clueless running things.

I think the point here is being missed
Mr. King made a choice to be loud and use a tone that was distrurbing to those in the courthouse, rather it be employes or citizens that were there.
He did nor conduct himself in a professional manner, if he wanted to engage in a heated arguement, it should have taken place somewhere else, maybe the board room!!!!!!!!!!
Why would the tax payers be responsible for his lack of control ??????????
It is unbecoming of an elected official and displays lack of control, is this what the citizens of the community want??????????
This town has had such bad publicity, by those who were appointed or elected.
If Mr. Danielson is the representive to his department in the insurance matter, why was he not allowed to attend the meeting??????????
As a taxpayer I am very disappointed at the careless, reckless, disregard for professionalism, at the hand of those who hold appointed or elected offices for this community.
The county supervisors voted for the tax payers to foot the bill for "one" who lacks self-control.

Again it is the LAW that states that the county must provide legal defense for its ELECTED officials, if the issue is within the performance of their elected duties. If there was no law for this, then the elected officials would go broke defending themselves against lawsuits. The county supervisors DID NOT vote to provide legal defense for Mr. King. The county is required by law to do so.

What you are saying is that they can shoot thier mouth off while not conducting county business at the tax payers expense,
that is what you are saying
what I am saying is that he made a choice to shoot his mouth, a decsion made by him, it should have nothing to do with the tax payer.
He should pay the fine and save this community any future humiliation. Enough is enough !!!!!!!!

Conflict of interest, remember what the paper said, the county attorney called the chief of police to investigate, because of conflict of interest.
It is a battle lost, a waste of tax payer money.
King should apologize for the specticale he made of himself and put our hard earned dollor to better use.
I expect more from elected officials and when they make a choice to create a situation that gets them charged with disorderly conduct, that is not what my tax dollor is for.
We have become the laughing stock of all of Iowa. being refered to as hillbillies.
Appointed and elected officials making headines for bad behavior.
MY tax dollor should not have to pay for bad behavior and lack of self control.
I will remember all these bad choices when I go to the polls.

They want us to believe that board members can srtoll the halls of the courthouse (CONDUCTING COUNTY BUSINESS) and disturb the patrons and the employees, using threatening undertones, and then the taxpayers can pay the lawyer to defend them for misconduct.
DO THEY REALYY THINK THEY CAN DEFEND WHAT HE HAS DONE, it was investigated by the CHIEF OF POLICE who felt the charges should be brought.
What a waste of tax money.
Lets reward them for bad judgement, poor behavior, and no self control.

Can anyone tell me why the hell we have a county attorney? Every thing seems to be a conflict of interest, what exactly do we pay him to do? Mr. King pay the fine and go on, that's what a grown man would do. Save us all the humiliation and expense, this is childish and ridiculous. No matter who was right or wrong you apparently carried yourself in a wreckless tone, which is unprofessional. Shut it and pay it! I am tired of Creston making front page news from powers that be, behaving stupidly, then making excuses for it!!!!!

And as far as Dave Danielson goes, everyone knows he's an ex-convict. No one ever seemed to have a problem with it before? And who the hell hired an ex-convict to run a jail, then ignored it for YEARS, and now bitch about it? But that's how we ROLL in Creston! You are all a bunch of dumbasses!!!!
