My girlfriend and I were fishing along the Ohio River last night in Shadyside near the Route 7 overpass. We arrived with our fishing gear and our little 5 1/2 lb Minature Pinscher (Taco) around 11pm. We parked pretty close to the overpass and made our way down to the river bank. At about 3:30 am I heard a noise in the brush behind us. I stood up and looked with my headlamp to see what was lurking behind us. I noticed a piercing set of yellow eyes staring down our way about 40 yards from us. It totally freaked me out because the space of the eyes seemed to be wider than that of anything I've ever seen. I threw a decent size rock up that way to scare away whatever it was. It took off to the south make a lot of noise, kind of like a huffing sound and was pretty loud. It seemed to go away but I kept looking in that direction. About 5 minutes later I noticed about 20 yards from us the same set of peering eyes looking at us this time closer to the water. I then picked up a couple of large sticks and started hurling them in that direction. Whatever animal it was took off again. Needless to say after that we got our gear together rather quickly and left. It was about a 50 yard walk up the embankment and through some brush back to our vehicle. Quite intense I must say. I was never so happy to get back to our vehicle. I wasn't scared for myself, but if something would have happened to my girlfriend or Taco I would have been extremely upset. I'm not sure what kind of wild animals are lurking around here, but I have seen a bobcat crossing the road in front of me near Tappan Lake at about 4 in the morning. I would venture to say this was either a bobcat or some type of cat...however much much larger considering the width of the eyes. I didn't get a look at the animal itself, only the eyes but if anyone goes fishing late at night along the Ohio River I would suggest being very cautious of what's lurking in the bush around you.

Were you by the old marina or at the mouth of WeeGee Creek?
Bobcat is possible, more of them around every year. Could be coyote. Could even be black bear. More than likely, though, it was either Bigfoot or Michael Moore. |

We were by the old marinia. Whatever it was had to be a type of cat. Definitely not a black bear. Could have been a coyote..... but how do you know Michael Moore? lol.

Michael Moore is so fat, when he gets around, he really gets around. Michael Moore is so fat, his blood type is "Ragu." Michael Moore is so fat, he has his own zip code. etc etc etc |
