Well, are we?

Socialism? I keep seeing it posted all over the board about how our president is spearheading a socialist movement.

Can an educated person with the ability to type a cohesive sentence
explain precisely what is happening that will turn us into a socialist country?

I'm a generally up-to-date kind of guy, but I don't quite get precisely how we are giving up democracy in favor of pure socialism. I guess I need an education.

ok this is simple...when the government is providing you with everything you need, i.e. houseing, medicine, a paycheck then you basically are working for the government. The government takes what you makes and redistributes it to the masses that is what socialism is.

That is a perfectly decent definition. Thank you Mugsy.

However, I still fail to see how the United States is becoming socialist.

Am I soon to be forced into living in a government assigned and provided home? Am I soon to be forced into having to see only government appointed physicians? Will I soon be deprived of my choice to send my child to a private school?

These are the implications that are being made on this board constantly. I'd like to know just how big the threat is. I don't know of anybody proposing these things. Am I simply uninformed?

We live in a democratic federal republic with a capitalist system economy that employs socialistic programs. We are one of a kind. The wingnuts will never be happy. There is a lot of racial and religious reasons why they are so upset. Bottom line, the majority of people in here don't get a rats ass about federal spending or big government programs. Its the debt that scares them. If I had a federal program that bought everybody a new car, reduced the debt to next to nothing and lowered taxes; I would be your next president.

Ok.

I keep hearing about how we are heading for Socialism. No one here wants to step up to the plate and logically explain it? Maybe it isn't happening?

This board has people screaming about socialism left and right. Step up to the plate and take your best educated shot!

We're already quasi-socialist. No country is purely capitalist or purely socialist.

If you went to school in a public school, you are the victim of socialism.

Get over it. We have had socialist programs going all along. That doesn't mean that we are turning into a totally socialist state. But in order for our Republic to continue and for the elements of democracy to persist, we have to have some socialist elements. Education is one of them. Otherwise, the majority of people will stay home and pick cotton and tobacco and hang out with sheep.

Actually--I pretty much enjoy that socialist highway system we have. I also appreciate that socialist program -The National INstitutes of Health- great research and medical advances. The really socialist National Parks System does a terrific job of keeping capitalism at bay and preserving nature's wonders for the rest of the worker state. I really appreciate the electrical grid we have in the south that was first advanced by the TVA and REA. I am VERY appreciative that my parents and in-laws have Social Security and Medicare and don't have to move in with us since they retired. I think it is fantastic that my veteran child has veterans health insurance that has treated him pretty well - thank you - while he is looking for a decent job during this down turn.
Gosh - I'm not sure what we would do without a whole lot of the "socialist" programs that Beck and Hannity and Limbaugh rail on and on about. Of course, when you make millions of $$$ a year, you are pretty well out of the mainstream and have not a clue how the majority of Americans live.

It is not socialism that we are headed for but a world wide dictatorship. This has been in the works for years. I remember evangelist Jess Hendley warning about this in the fifties at Prays Mill.

America has been hoodwinked into a false idea that we have two parties. We do not. We are headed into a new world order in overdrive with the Democrats and high gear with the Republicans.

America, Canada and Mexico are being brought together into a union like Europe. I know people in Homeland Security and they tell me that they are not allowed to do their jobs. All either party will ever do about the borders is talk. The only difference in Democrats and Republicans is their rhetoric.

Oh, bullshit. Who do you think is going to head up this "one world government dictatorship?"
We can't even agree on anything in here, much less elect a world dictator.

Do you wants some quotes from Obama, Bush, Kissinger, Brown of the UK etc. about a new world order? I am a student of history. I know that there was two groups that came to America. One was seeking religious freedom and one group wanted to make America the head of a new world order. The movement has been and will be about making a one world religion, a one world money system, and a one world government. If you are not myopic you can see this with your own eyes. Just pay attention to the news.

Yeah, well if you haven't looked lately, we have too many racial political and religious problems among people, not to speak of all the economic divides between the rich, middle claas and unemployed that will keep any kind of "one world order" from happening.

I know enough from just going over to Wal-mart to understand that any group who tries to end up on top of this mess will be led to slaughter.

The New World Order mantra has been going on for centuries and it is no further along than when it started. We can't even keep our military from shooting itself up.

The news is run by a group of people with hidden agendas who think that the average person is extremely gullible and ot a certain extent they are correct. However, the liklihood of any one group winning out over all others ... I would give that the same odds as my winning the Mega-Millions. There are too many groups and individuals who will not get along or go along.

Students of history should be aware that every time this has been tried, it has failed miserably and cost the lives of millions of people.

What you are describing is the Hegelian Dialectic. Do you know what that is? It is part of the strategy.

You say we are no further along. We have the Patriot Act pushed through by both parties. We have the increasing power of the UN. We have the military patrolling our streets and going into houses seizing peoples guns. We have checkpoints with the military stooping civilians and asking for their papers. This is not the America I knew as a boy. Good grief, what will it take?

Here are a few quotes for you:
"Today, America would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order. Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there were an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them by the World Government."
- Henry Kissinger, Bilderberger Conference in Evians, France, 1991

"The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining super capitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent."
- Congressman Larry P. McDonald, 1976, killed in the Korean Airlines 747 that was shot down by the Soviets

"In the next century, nations as we know it will be obsolete; all states will recognize a single, global authority. National sovereignty wasn't such a great idea after all."
- Strobe Talbot, President Clinton's Deputy Secretary of State, Time Magazine, July 20th, l992

Now here is an intelligent and thought out post. Thanks Janet!

When I started this post, I was hoping some of the right-wing idiots that keep screaming "Socialism!!!" would jump in and try to explain themselves. Despite the open invitation, we've yet to see one. I think they realize there is no logical basis in their new mantra. Cowards.

We did get off on an interesting tangent about the new world order. While I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, this is one that might actually have some truth going on in the background. It seems like there is a very old "Good Ol Boys" club doing some nefarious deeds outside of the public eye. I'm not sure if they really want to rule the world...I think more than likely what they are up to is trying to rule the worlds wealth while wearing cute little aprons.

Bill, there is a lot more to this than people are aware of. All the news networks are choreographed and are just propaganda agents for the elite. If people only get their news from the networks they will never see the truth. You seem to be curious about this. Try some alternative news. Take the red pill.
